Fire

In the event of a fire or smoke from a fire has been detected,

proceed according to the following plan:
1.

Activate the building fire alarm system. Call 911. Notify office of fire location.
(Office personnel need to make sure 911 has been called.)

2. Evacuate students and staff to designated safe areas, at least 100 feet according to prearranged fire drill plans (see appendix A).
-Evacuees should not stand on roads, driveways, fire lanes, etc. and should not
be in the way of emergency equipment and personnel.

Evacuation Routes are posted in each classroom near the exit door.

Follow normal fire drill route. Use an alternate route if normal route is too
dangerous or is blocked.
5. Each teacher is responsible for the evacuation of his or her classroom and for
accountability of his or her students after evacuation. (Each classroom teacher is to have
plans in place for substitute teacher in case of his or her absence.)
-Make sure entire classroom is evacuated (restrooms, study areas, etc.)
-Do not allow students to stop at lockers for jackets or other personal belongings.
-Take class roster/grade book.
-Take roll after being evacuated.
-If a student is unaccounted for, notify administration or office personnel
immediately.
6. Prior arrangements are made for evacuation of handicapped or disabled students.
(Students case manager is responsible for such arrangements and communicating such
arrangements to classroom teachers).

Do Not use elevators during a fire evacuation.

8. Ensure that the building has been completely evacuated, that all students are accounted
for, and all fire doors have been closed. (Designated staff members will be assigned to check
non-classroom areas of the building).
9. Circumstances may dictate moving students to the primary relocation site. In such cases,
staff members will be informed.

Bluff View - Acro Tech Building
Lincoln - St. Marys Church

10. No one may re-enter the building until the building has been declared safe by fire or
police personnel. (If it is a drill or a false alarm, the all clear signal will be given when the
building can be re-entered.)
