INTRODUCTION
A Smart City is a
developed urban area
that creates sustainable
economic development
and high quality of life
by excelling in 6 key
areas that can be done
through strong
infrastructure.
Sustainability includes
social sustainability
financial sustainability.
environmental sustainability
Quality of Life includes safety
and security, inclusiveness,
entertainment, ease of seeking
and obtaining public services,
cost efficient healthcare, quality
education, transparency,
accountability and opportunities
for participation in governance.
CONCEPT
KEY AREAS
PILLARS
Institutional Infrastructure (including Governance), Physical
Infrastructure, Social Infrastructure and Economic Infrastructure
constitute the four pillars on which a city rests.
The Centre of
attention for each of
these pillars is the
citizen.
In other words a
Smart City works
towards ensuring the
best for its entire
people, regardless of
social status, age,
income levels,
gender, etc.
MODIS SCHEME
The government
has assigned
number of cities
each State/Union
Territory can
nominate under the
100 Smart Cities
project as well as
those to be
developed under
the Atal Mission for
Rejuvenation and
Urban
Transformation
(AMRUT) scheme.
Tamil Nadu comes
second with the
allocation of 12
smart cities and 33
AMRUT cities.
