Pedestrian Struck By Car While Crossing Intersection at Nuttall and Bartram Road
Juvenile driver strikes another juvenile in intersection as she crosses roadway

On Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 6:00 p.m., the Riverside Police Department received multiple
phone calls reporting a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Nuttall and
Bartram Road. Upon the first officers' arrival, he observed a black 2005 Volvo stopped just past
the crosswalk south of the intersection and a young female standing next to it. The driver was
not injured in this accident.
The officers then observed a female sitting on the ground at the curb adjacent to the
intersection. This 13-year-old female juvenile resident of Riverside was the pedestrian who was
struck in the crosswalk. Officers observed blood flowing from the facial area of the victim and
paramedics were summoned to the scene.
Also at the scene were two independent witnesses who stayed to give police their statements.
Riverside police contacted the juveniles parents and they quickly arrived to the scene. The
female juvenile who was struck by the car was transported to Loyola University Medical Center
in Maywood for medical treatment and released later that night.
The 16-year-old female driver stated she was traveling southbound on Nuttall Road approaching
the intersection of Bartram and she was temporarily blinded by headlights from another vehicle.
She then struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk while she temporarily blinded.
Police interviewed the independent witnesses and the young girl that was struck and verified the
facts involving this accident.
The 16-year-old female driver was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident
and failure to yield right-of-way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
