A Raisin in the Sun

Concept Exploration/ Theme development

Task: You and your group must examine how one of the following concepts has impacted
A Raisin in the Sun:
Dreams
Money
Self-Expression

Culture
Gender

Family
Discrimination

You will do this by creating a visual representation of your assigned concept and finding
a minimum of SEVEN examples from the play (your examples MUST be DIRECTLY from
the text and include page #s; your examples should be from a variety of characters).
You will compile this information into a google slide show and present it to the class as
part of our test review. Your slide show will contain at least 9 slides. The first slide should
contain your visual (either had drawn or a collage of computer generated images), the
next seven slides will each contain a textual example and an explanation of how the
example displays the theme. On the final slide you will construct a theme sentence
using your concept.
Steps:
Divide into groups of Three-Four students (Mrs. Hearn will assign your groups)
Assign your group members to the following roles:
Designer: Is responsible for creating the visual and putting together the slide show
Investigator #1: Is responsible for finding quotes/examples from Act I.
Investigator #2: Is responsible for finding quotes/examples from Act II.
Presenter: Shares the information with the class; responsible for finding
quotes/examples from Act III.
