Societys Irrational Thoughts On Dreams
In the article Why Dreams Mean Less Than We Think, John Cloud states that
dreams come from inside of us, but people have a harder time explaining them because they
interpret dreams irrationally. To expand, the text declares, ...because that content seems to arise
spontaneously and from within - we cant explain it the way we can explain random thoughts
that occur to us during waking hours. (Cloud, 2009). Humans think of dreams irrationally
because they see dreams as something extremely complex, which is why many make such a big
deal out of their dreams. In addition, the article explains how a daytime thought can affect a
dream, Maybe 24 caused the dream we think - or maybe were having a premonition of an
attack. (Cloud, 2009). In this case, the author used the movie 24 to explain how a thought
during the day leading to a violent dream can cause the human mind to create interpretations that
are not realistic, causing them to stress about things they dont need to worry about. Next, this
article explains, We love to interpret dreams widely, and those acts of interpretation give dreams
meaning. (Cloud, 2009). Many people need to make sense of dreams in order to be satisfied,
even when theres nothing to be interpreted. A large amount of people dont see that theres not
an interpretation or hidden meaning behind everything. In conclusion, most people interpret their
dreams irrationally because the content of their nightly thoughts comes from inside of them,
giving them even more reason to try to make sense of everything in their dreams.
