Charts
These compositions are not necessarily going to set the world on fire, but
they serve very specific purposes and have proven very valuable in my
teaching.
The pieces generally dont take long for the student to work through, and
often lead them into longer pop/rock songs that contain similar elements.
If you like my style, there are many more useful compositions (that cover a
much broader spectrum) in my books Creative Drumming Made Simple and
Songs on the Side.
Here is a brief outline of the charts included:
Going the distance simple grooves, but the duration is the challenge.
Count a musical summary of quarter rests.
Southern Sun focuses on strong rock flams and quarter rests.
Easy rock 1 & 2 fairly simple 12 bar blues style pieces, where faster
tempos can be encouraged.
Rifforama requires a strong knowledge of eighth rests, and sounds best
with a confident dynamic.
Open Hi hat study #1 learning to control the open Hi Hat sound.
Take it easy focuses on a 12/8 feel and counting dotted quarter notes.
Jazz band what a student might see in a school band situation. A good
opportunity for the teacher to explain when and how to improvise.
Hopefully your students enjoy them!
