ANALYSIS

1. Are there regions between permanent magnets where the magnetic

field lines intersect? If yes, where? If, no why?
Based on the experiment weve done, there are no regions where
the field lines intersect. This is because net magnetic force has a unique
direction, which is tangent to the magnetic field line. If there is such an
intersection, it would only mean that there could be two or more possible
directions of forces (which is impossible). Its just like throwing a same
ball with the same hand in two or more different direction.

2. What does the digital balance reading represent? What does the
number of magnets represent? What is the relationship between the two?
The digital balance reading represents the magnitude of the
magnetic force exerted by the magnetic field and the current passing
through it. On the other hand, the number of magnets represents or
indicates the magnitude of the magnetic field present. Based on the
experimental observations on magnetic force on moving electric
charges, the magnitude of the magnetic force (F) is directly proportional
to the magnitude of the magnetic field (B). So if the magnetic force
increases, the magnetic field will also increase and vice versa.

3. What orientation of the magnetic field gives minimum and maximum

magnetic force respectively?
The formula for the magnetic force (F) is F=qvBsin where q is
the charge of the particle, v is the velocity, B is the magnetic field and
is the angle between v and B. For the sine function to be minimum the

angle should be 0 or 180 degrees. Then F=0 which is the minimum

magnetic force. And when is 90 degrees, F=qvB which is the
maximum magnetic force. Thus, we can say that we can get a minimum
magnetic force if v and B are parallel or antiparallel to each other. On
the other hand, we get maximum magnetic force if they are
perpendicular to each other.
