Throughout the semester I would go to schools within
Rockingham Country and perform screenings. The first school
was an elementary school and I provided vision screenings to
children in grades first to sixth. The other two experiences
were at high schools and visions and hearing screenings were
provided to students in 9th Grade through 12th grade.
This rotation also consisted of working on the Pediatric Unit at
University of Virginias Hospital. Here I took care of a 4 week
old with a fever, performed a physical assessment, taught
parents proper feeding, performed hourly rounds and vital
checks, documented on epic and aided in diaper changes and
documented intake and output. I also had a patient age 3 with
developmental and intellectual disabilities who had a central

sterile line cleaning and dressings. Aided in abdominal
dressing changes for a partial removal of intestines. Gave oral
medication, IV antibiotics and therapeutic play.
The first half of the semester I worked at a free medical clinic
in Winchester, VA providing care to uninsured individuals of

patients about safe sex and importance of protection. Assisted
in OBGYN visits. Provided wound care. Organized patient

documentation. Provided emotional support.
The second part of the semester I worked at an elderly
recreation center. The requirements for the older participants
were that they must be independent. Here we provided
teaching to older adults about skin cancer protection, diabetes,
hernias, exercise, fall prevention, and nutrition.
Currently working on a med-surg observation floor,
