Shelves
This chapter describes the structure, configurations, functions
and principles, interfaces, DIP switches and jumpers of ZXG10
iTC shelves.

Overview
The shelf combines various boards through the backplane to
form an independent unit, and provides good running
environment for the boards.
ZXG10 iTC system has four types of shelves:

Functions

Control shelf

Resource shelf

Packet switching shelf

Circuit switching shelf

Table 13 explains the types and functions of these shelves:

Shelf Configurations
Figure 34 shows the shelf configurations of ZXG10 iTC cabinet.
FIGURE 34 ZXG10 ITC SHELF CONFIGURATIONS

Resource shelf should be configured in the second and third

shelves of iTC cabinet and control shelf is configured in the
second shelf of the third cabinet if needed. For one or two
cabinet iTC configuration, control shelfs boards are distributed
in other shelves because of the lack of enough space to have a
separate shelf.
Packet switching shelf and circuit switching shelf should be
configured in the fourth and first shelves respectively.

Backplane
Backplane is an important part of a shelf. Circuit boards in a
shelf connect through printed lines on the backplane. It reduces
the cable routing on the back of backplane and improves
reliability of the whole system.
Figure 35 shows the backplane structure.

iTC supports to configure a pair of CLKG boards. CLKG is

a part of the control shelf but is configured on the circuit
switching shelf in case the iTC is one or two cabinet. The
system clock is distributed to switching shelves and
resource shelves via the cable.
OMP and SBCX boards are connected with iTC Network
Management System (iTCM) through Hub, isolating the
internal and external network segment. The iTCM could
reside on the SBCX board or on an external server.
CHUB is the center where the control flows of the
switching shelf, the resource shelf, and the control shelf
gather.

Intra-shelf signal processing

BCTC backplane bears signaling processing board and MS
modules. It gathers and processes the control plane data
forming a distributed processing platform in the multishelf system.

UIMC is the signaling switching center of the control shelf,

implementing the information switching between modules.

OMP board is responsible for the global processing and

controls O&M of the whole system (including O&M agent).

OMP board is the core of ZXG10 iTCM. It directly or

indirectly monitors and manages the boards. OMP board
uses Ethernet and RS485 to configure and manage the
boards.
SBCX is connected with iTCM via Hub. It saves some files
needed by OMP, and organizes these files according to
the form required by iTCM.

CMP board is connected with the switching unit of control

plane, implementing all the protocol processing on control
plane.

The packet domain packet switching shelf implements data inter

working, including timing, signaling, voice service and data
service. It provides the QoS function for different subscribers
according to service requirements.
The packet domain packet switching shelf adopts a high-speed
switching backplane. Network processing boards first perform
physical interface data routing transfer; then implement data
switching by sending the data to the switching network via the
high-speed switching connection of the backplane; they also
receive data from the switching network and send the data via
the physical interface after processing.

Boards
This chapter describes the functions and structure of ZXG10 iTC
boards.

Overview
According to the hardware assembly relation, boards can be
classified as front board and rear board.

Front board has a front panel. Indicators on the front panel

indicate the board status. Front board can be inserted in the
slots.
Rear board consists of the external interfaces and debugging
interfaces. These interfaces are used to interconnect shelves
of same cabinet or different cabinets. The rear board and the
front board work together. For some active/standby front
board, it is necessary to configure two kinds of rear boards.
Front board and rear board are installed in the slots on the
backplane.
Front board and rear board form a complete metal shield
inside the shelf, reducing the external electromagnetic
radiation of the system and enhancing the anti-interference
capability.

Figure 59 shows the board assembly relation.

Universal Interface Module for TDM

Switch Network
Universal Interface Module for TDM Switch Network (UIMT)
board performs functions such as Level 2 Ethernet switching
inside the resource shelf, time slot multiplexing and switching for
the circuit switching shelf, and shelf management. Besides, it
provides the Ethernet cascaded interface at control plane.
Functions

UIMT has additional functions besides relative functions of UIMC.

These functions are described as follow:

102

The boards in BUSN shelf and BCSN shelf are connected with
two pairs of fiber cables to implement 16 K time slot

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION

Chapter 4 - Boards

multiplexing. Also, this enables 8 M 32 M multiplexing and

interfacing over 16 K time slots, which utilizes frame
interleaving to provide the resource shelf with 128 X 8 Mbps
HWs.

Principles

The board provides the resource shelf with 16 K circuit

switching function. The function does not coexist with
external multiplexing function. The circuit switching network
board is configured in UIMT through inserting a daughter
card.

The circuit switching network board configuration is not

required in UIMT. This is because the circuit switching
network board has been configured while configuring BCSN
shelf.

By selecting and configuring daughter card GXS, it provides

outward GE optical interface at media plane, which
interconnects BUSN shelf and BPSN shelf implementing IP
media stream switching. GE optical interface is backed up
over active and standby channels.

By selecting and configuring daughter card GTS, it provides

outward TDM optical multiplexing interface at media plane,
which
interconnects
BUSN
shelf
and
BCSN
shelf
implementing TDM media stream switching. TDM optical
multiplexing interface is backed up over active and standby
channels.

Power Unit
The input voltage of the alarm box is -48 V DC from the
equipment room, and is converted to +5 V, +3.3 V and other
voltages for each unit by DC-DC power converter.

When the alarm box is in the duty room outside the equipment
room, there may not be -48 V DC power, in this case, a external
AC/DC power adapter is required to convert 110/220 V AC to 48 V DC, providing -48 V DC power to the alarm box. AC/DC
power adaptor is an optional accessory of the alarm box.
