Analysis report

Hello my name is Tarun Madduri, from 8 myp A of sreenidhi international

school.
We completed the 1st semester and moved onto the 2nd semester of the year
2015-16.
This analysis report is about the unit gaming, which we are going to learn
about this semester in our design cycle class. We will accompanied by our
teacher Ms. Mayura. We were asked to make our own process journals for this
semester, I have made a website which I use to update all the information or
things we do in our class, or to put all my work in it. It made our work easier
as I dont have to write. We were asked to choose our clients whom we have to
make a game for, which is considered to be our summative task. My client is
Ms. Sama Maryum my fellow classmate. We were asked to survey our clients
to find out what are their likes and dislikes and their needs, so we can make
the game for our clients according to our survey so they will like it. This was
considered to be the primary research, here is the following survey:

We were also asked to research few questions on gaming and how it affects
us, here are the following questions and results:
1. Factual question- what are the requirements of a good game.

A1. A high-resolution monitor with a total of at least a 22-inch viewing

area.

A powerful graphics adapter if your motherboard supports it, create a

dual-card graphics system for the best possible performance.

A high-capacity fan system to cool both your CPU and GPU.

As much memory as you can afford, up to the maximum supported by
your motherboard.
A fast 7,200 or 10,000 RPM hard drive.

Good internet connection

Windows 7 or Windows 8.

A good software

A gaming controller with programmable functions (which can include a

gaming mouse and keyboard).
2. Factual question- How does gaming effect you emotionally?

A2. It affects in the following way:

1. Spending excessive amounts of time on the computer.
2. becoming defensive when confronted about gaming.
3. Losing track of time.
4. Preferring to spend more time with the computer than with friends or family.
5. Losing interest in previously important activities or hobbies.
6. Becoming socially isolated, moody, or irritable.
7. Establishing a new life with online friends.
8. Neglecting schoolwork and struggling to achieve acceptable grades.
9. Spending money on unexplained activities.
10. Attempting to hide gaming activities.
Some video games can even make young people more empathetic, helpful and
sharing.

1. Conceptual question - How games build abstract thinking.

A1. Video games might have earned notoriety for being violent and addictive,
but most experts suggest that they are highly effective in improving a persons
mental faculties. Video games teach a person to think critically. They help

stimulate the brain, encouraging the player to come up with revolutionary

solutions and adaptations. Best of all, the enhancement in critical thinking
proves applicable and valuable in real-life scenarios. Video games even help
in the enhancement of an individuals problem-solving and decision-making
faculties. Since they enable the player to make smart choices and solve
seemingly-unsolvable problems, video games help a person improve his
analytical thinking abilities.
Just like board games, the effect of video games on a persons critical thinking
and problem-solving skills shows that it makes one smarter by developing his
logical-mathematical intelligence. Such individuals are known to be experts in
sequential reasoning, abstract reasoning and inductive/deductive thinking.
2. Conceptual question- Does a game of ones interest help them
increase their attention span and develop critical thinking.
A2. The effect of video games on a persons critical thinking and problemsolving skills shows that it makes one smarter by developing his logicalmathematical intelligence. Some studies have found that playing video
games can improve visual attention in the way I have mentioned. They can
simultaneously make kids more impulsive and less able to concentrate, or
give close attention. In fact, impulsive and inattentive kids tend to play
more video games in the first place.
1. Debatable question- Do you think gaming can be the future of
education? Justify.
A1. Yes, for decades, psychologists have studied video games as models of
intrinsically motivated learning. The techniques that games use fantasy,
control, challenge, curiosity, collaboration and competition are now the
cornerstones of motivational theory. Teachers have been using games for
kids. These are the kinds of things that get kids excited; theyre
challenging, motivating, and maybe most importantly, fun. Emotion is
linked closely to memory, and using teaching methods like video games
that evoke emotions are more likely to stay. Video games can be so much
more immersive than board games or other classic games that students
tend to respond more energetically and passionately.

After seeing these answers, I can see that gaming has advantages and
disadvantages. I think it is a great topic to learn about as we learn lot of
things from games, also because we are learning something new and also
getting familiar with softwares and coding. It is also a visual learning for us.
We even build lot of learner profiles like communicator, as we communicate
and interact with our clients to create the perfect game, knowledgeable also as
we learn lot of new things and come across new software and coding.
After reading these questions and answers I feel, gaming is perfect for us if we
can balance it with our social, academic and sports life.

Here are few results or graphs to show the popularity in gaming of different
categories:

After seeing this chart I can identify that people mostly do not tend to buy
extra lives or coins or credits as its time consuming and waste, why would
people buy credits from a free game? So yes its pointless. Im sure people will
just close the tabs which says buy these coins or credits as they just want to
continue playing and dont have any interest to buy things from a free game.

As you see Farmville is the most popular as many kids and lot of people on
Facebook like playing Farmville, its very popular among kids.

Action is the most popular probably because of watching movies, especially

action movies. So people like copying things from movies into their games and
lot of people play games like gta and zombie shooter as they are fun and
difficult. But most movies influence people to play action games, all the
countries sell action games the most. Personally even I love action and
adventure.

Adults will definitely say that gaming is pointless as you can see in the chart,
or it says some games are fine but not all. Maybe because in their generation
there was nothing like gaming and they know nothing about it, they only
found out what is gaming in 1995 or something like that. So obviously if you
are not familiar or use to something you will think it is pointless. We love
gaming because weve known it since we were 4, now even the technology
and devices have improved so much that it makes gaming so much better and
interesting which makes us play more. But definitely the reason behind adults
hating gaming or disliking gaming is they are not familiar with it, they are
used to playing outdoor rather than playing indoor which is basically video
games.

Conclusion with my client:

After surveying my client I see that she likes mind games so I think I will
make a puzzle game for her. As mentioned above gaming has many
advantages and disadvantages, you can see why above. But overall I love
gaming and im really looking forward to this unit gaming, working with my
client and creating a successful game.
