ABSTRACT:

ANALYSIS/REFLECTION:

Instructing teachers to use computational math

and science in their lessons has led to marked
student improvement in two New York districts.
Dr. Osman Yasar, director of the institute that
trains teachers in this approach, explains
why. Included: Tips for using computational
math and science in the classroom.

An essential part of growing as an individual (ex.

Teacher, educator) is acquiring new knowledge to
add on to what you have already gained from
previous educational experiences. Teachers, who
have been in the field for a long period of time,
have adapted and are set in their ways of teaching.
Therefore, they refuse to participate in any
workshops that offer the opportunity to gain
perspective on how to tweak their teaching
strategies, which will benefit student learning,
involvement, and motivation and student
achievement. The article New Approach to
Teaching Math, Science Spurs Gains, Dr. Osmar
Yasar, makes realistic and concrete inferences how
the CMST Institute has shown remarkable
performance in students. Especially for students
who have teachers who attended the training
course. The teachers have a refreshed and
revamped outlook on Math and Science, in addition
to that are motivated for the new transition of
computational math/science in classrooms. Rather
than setting up the children for the expectation that
Math and Science are bad and no one likes it, the
CMST Institute have been able to explore new
stimulating ways for such reaction to happen.
Teachers, who have graduated from the CMST
INSTITUTE, have now opened the doors for
accepting Math and Science as it is, but, involve
their students more and talk with them, not just at
them. By doing this, the ease of teaching
computational Math and Science will be positive
and encouraging. Myself, I have had the pleasure
of attending in an interactive workshop called
Technology Makes Teaching and Learning
Visible which outlines significant ideas how social
media and technology are changing dramatically in
society, especially in schools. Along with that, we

had the opportunity of brining in our own techdevices, where we created first hand digital
footprints that is incorporated with documentation
of childrens growth. This ties in with the term of
pedagogythe CMST Institute promotes
effectively in the classroom and outside in the
working world.
