THE GROWTH OF TELEVISION


TECHNOLOGY
1927 was when the first moving images were
transmitted via television between
Washington, DC and New York City.
By 1936 there were 200 television sets in the
U.S.
For the first 40 years tv was mostly live.
Satellite broadcasting was introduced in 1962

EVOLUTION OF THE INDUSTRY


Television production became popular in
early 1950s.
The second generation of tv production came
into field as it transitioned from black and
white to color.

AREAS OF TELEVISION PRODUCTION


Commercial broadcast television: type of
television production facility is for-profit.
An ad is an television advertisement
Broadcast is when the television signal
travels through air from one antenna to
another.
Subscriber television: fee-for-service
programming where customers pay
scheduled fees based on selected
programming package.

Educational television: tv that aims to inform
the public about various topics.
Industrial television: tv that communicates
relevant info to a specific audience.
Closed circuit television: tv where the signal
is sent through wires and serves only an
extremely small, private predetermined area.
Surveillance television: form of CCTV that is
usually used for security purposes.
Home video: videotaped records of family
events and activities

VIDEO PRODUCTION COMPANIES


Large-scale video production companies:
facilities with sufficient staff and equipment
to produce multi-camera, large budget
programming shot on location
Small-scale video production: limited staff an
equipment resources.

TELEVISION PROGRAM ORIGINATION


Network: corporation that bundles a
collection of programs and makes the
program available to its affiliates.
Affiliate: broadcast station that has aligned
itself with a particular network.
Syndication: process of making a specified
number of program episodes available for
lease to other networks or individual
stations.
Local organization: programming made in a
specific geographic area.
