1. Suspending Judgment: If we assume that Dr. Dufraine is operating with the best
intentions, how might her behavior be interpreted?
Assuming that Dr. Dufraine is operating with the best intentions, she might not be caught
up with some of the requirements she has to go over that align with the standards. Unless
recommended by administration, teachers dont have to take part in interdisciplinary
lessons.
2. Asset-Based Thinking: What strengths or positive attributes might Dr. Dufraine
possess in this scenario? How might a characteristic or behavior that you found
problematic in Dr. Dufraine actually be a strength in disguise? What are the other
positives in this situation?
Dr. Dufraine exemplifies a teacher that sticks to the standards because as teachers we are
required to cover certain topics. Although her approach seemed aggressive, Dr. Dufraine
showed that she isnt afraid to stand up for herself and I think that in any career field that
is a great attribute of a person.
3. Locus of Control: Which things were within your ability to affect in this case study?
How could you have targeted these things while still operating with respect and
humility?
I could have done a better job trying to gain the support of Dr. Dufraine. It might have
been better for me to speak with her individually with my mentor teacher present. This
would have prevented questioning her intentions as to why she did not want to work with
the rest of the teachers. Also, I was wrong for throwing her under the bus to my students
when they asked why Dr. Dufraine failed to have readings on the Revolutionary War.
That was a selfish and unprofessional act that could have been avoided with a more
mature approach.
4. The case study ends at a critical decision/action point. Consider the Professional
Competencies and the responses you made in the previous questions. Then:
a. Decide on a course of action. Describe what this course of action entails.
b. Address the possible consequences (positive and negative) that could arise
from that course of action.
c. Explain the most desirable outcome if all goes well.
The appropriate course of action to take in this situation is to speak with Dr. Dufraine in a
more intimate setting between the two of us and my mentor teacher. This would provide a
better understanding as to why she was not on board with the rest of the staff and avoid
the petty actions that followed in the scenario. I think that Dr. Dufraines explanation on
her stance would have given her a chance to not seem disinterested in the topic, but
provide us with a legitimate reason as to why she did not want to be involved. On the
other hand, this approach could build a longer bridge between the two of us because it is

direct and she may not do well with direct confrontation. Ultimately, I would just like to
know why Dr. Dufraine is opposed to the idea and see if theres any way I can change her
stance.
