January 2016
To Whom It May Concern:
It is with great enthusiasm that I am writing this letter to declare my interest in obtaining employment at your school as a
Middle or High School English Language Arts Teacher. Additionally, my wife, Alycia Nieves-Bushek, possesses a
Master of Education degree and certifications in the following areas: Elementary (PreK-Grade 6); Middle Math (Grades 69); Middle English /Language Arts (Grades 6-9); Special Education (Birth-Grade 12). Alycia and I will be attending the
Search Associates Cambridge Job Fair at the end of January and would be thrilled to have the opportunity speak directly
with you or a representative of your school.
In the spring and summer of 2008, I acquired my Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the University of
Wisconsin-Whitewater. I possess teaching certifications for grades 6-12. After graduation, I took the opportunity to teach
middle and high school students in South Korea for two years. During the first year, I taught and lived in rural Daesan,
South Korea where I was the only native English speaker. This allowed me to immerse myself in the culture. As an
educator in South Korea, I worked with students of varying English comprehension and communication skills and
developed relationships with them. I also worked collaboratively with Korean co-teachers in and out of the classroom to
develop and implement lessons. Teaching in South Korea opened my eyes to the excitement of international teaching.
For the past five years I have taught English Language Arts at Franklin Towne Charter High School in Philadelphia, which
was awarded a National Blue Ribbon by the United States Department of Education in 2014. The National Blue Ribbon
award recognizes schools for overall academic excellence and their progress in closing achievement gaps among student
subgroups. During my tenure at Franklin Towne, I have successfully shown an ability to accomplish both of those lofty
goals by being able to teach diverse groups of students. For example, I have taught every grade level from freshman to
seniors. I have also successfully worked with students of varying intellectual abilities, from honors to learning support
classrooms.
My strong performance in the classroom is due not only to my flexible adaptation, but also my belief that all students can
learn. I take pride in my ability to create thoughtful and rigorous curricula with demanding, yet attainable standards based
academic goals. For example, I have developed and implemented curricula that employ multiple modalities of learning.
These various types of lessons challenge students and incorporate differentiation of instruction so that all learners are
capable of achieving the academic goals they need to be successful students and citizens. I collaborate regularly with
Special Education teachers to develop and implement lessons that meet the needs of all learners in my classroom. As a
grade level team, my colleagues and I collaborate to create meaningful lessons that teach academic skills that can transfer
to real-world scenarios.
As an educator, I realize that learning is continuous. While teaching at Franklin Towne I was involved in multiple
extracurricular activities. Most notably, I was the Activities Director of the Ultimate Sports Club that engaged students in
nontraditional games after school such as dodge ball, kickball, and, my personal favorite, Ultimate Frisbee. Outside of
school, I played semi-professional Ultimate Frisbee in the American Ultimate Disc League for the Philadelphia Phoenix.
As the elected Captain of the team for two seasons, I lead by the example and created a team culture of hard work and
respect. The experience of playing against some of the best players in the world, and leading young men on and off the
field has been an integral experience in my awareness of my own capabilities and influence on others.
I am available for an interview at your convenience and would appreciate an opportunity to personally discuss with you
my qualifications and your professional needs in detail. I can be reached via e-mail at bushekad18@gmail.com or Skype
at anthony.bushek. To learn more about the qualifications of both my wife and I, please visit our online portfolio

Sincerely,
Anthony Bushek
