This week in FLK..

We were soooo quiet in the Library

this week that another Primary teacher
asked what we did to the children
before hand!
Thank you for your support we have lots of paper towels now.
Thank you to those who sent in whole cases!!!! Mwah!
In Language: We signed in to practice pencil grip and letter formations in our
name. We read and completed various activities around THE MITTEN. We read
two different versions, by Aylsworth and by Brett. We sequenced the stories,
discussed same/different, used a Venn diagram for the first time and learned a bit
about some animals. We played a game where the children were the animals going
into the mitten. We continued using morning messages to practice concepts of
print and other skills. We continued with our Jolly Phonics and learned the letter
name and sounds of Vv and Yy. The First Years continued in their Jolly Phonics
booklets while the Second Years added labels and/or sentences to their super
hero, Volcano Man, who vomits on villains (the pictures drawn to show
understanding were hilarious this week!) and The Yellow Yeller who yells!
We also continued our Surprise Bag Show n Share items. Piper shared her doll and
Christeena shared her cow and her pony. Well done !
Individual reading assessments were done as were 2 nd year sound assessments.
In Library this week, Miss Mason showed the children the Blue Spruce books 10
books she will read to us and we will vote on as our favourite!
Gym: We worked on ball skills and listening games.

Religion: We welcomed winter the snowy version as opposed to the calendar

version! We celebrated by going on a Nature walk and then mountain climbing
on the snow hill outside our door. We also celebrated mass as a school community.
Science: We went on a Nature walk. We talked about why ducks can swim in the
river in Winter and not run in and out like humans do during a Polar Bear Swim. We
discussed oil on their feathers and blood flow in their feet.
In Art: We had no formal art this week.
In Music, Drama and Dance: Miss Angenent continues with Musical Lunches and
dance parties. The Piano Guys were a hit again.
In Mathematics: We continued the 100 days of school.adding fish to our
fishbowl and straws to our collection. We counted by 1,2,5, and 10. We continued
using dot plates to quickly identify and count numbers 1 -10. We completed
assessments for measurement.
In Personal and Social Development: We worked on respect. We need to respect
each others privacy in the bathroom and we need to listen to our friends. When a
friend asks us to STOP, it is bucket dipping not to listen. And its NOT funny.
In Inquiry/Directed Play: Miss Angenent worked with the children to make vases
out of the letter V. We had a Roots of Empathy visit and Mrs. Krug discussed what
would be needed in a diaper bag with the children.
