Part II: Reflection

CANDIDATE REFLECTIONS:
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)

1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology facilitation and
leadership from completing this field experience?
During the field experience, I had the opportunity to create and design several documents for my
Impact on Student Learning for Wilcox County Elementary School. The ISLA consisted of
compilation of various data reviews collected. Each document shows the benefits of using data
and the many uses within the school to benefit the students. In the Data Overview, I highlight the
strengths and weaknesses of the information and raise questions on how and what the school can
do to address those weaknesses. While creating the ISLA, I was able to learn about technology
facilitation because it required me to use various technology sources in order to create the various
documents to show how to use data collected to benefit and enrich student learning. I also learned
how to successfully research and collect the data needed in order to create a Data Overview.
2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you
be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology
facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected in Part I. Use the
language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3knowledge, skills, and
dispositions.)
Knowledge: Through this experience I have learned that the biggest task for the Data Coach would
be background knowledge of knowing where to find and research the data needed for this area.
This experience helped me to identify the abundant amount of sources of data collected and used
by schools, state, and districts.
Skills: The Data Coach would need the skills to successfully create documents, graphs and more
and present the information so that faculty has an understanding of the information. The Data
Coach must have the skills needed compile data in order to make it easy for others to understand
yet still get the point across.
Dispositions: Along with knowledge and skills, a positive and flexible attitude is needed. There
will be many questions on how beneficial the data is and how it can be used to address needs
within the school. Patience and dedication is also a vital skill in creating the ISLA. It takes hard
work and time in order to create documents with so much important information.
3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or
student learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed?
This project has truly put into perspective how data can be used to benefit our schools and identify
weaknesses that have been otherwise overlooked. Our school uses a great deal of data, but
unfortunately teachers lack knowledge in how to use the data and are not being informed of better
uses of the data to enrich the learning of students. This impact could be assessed next year, by
review from the teachers of how the data has been used and if it has been successful enough to
complete in years to come.
