Liner Notes, Lyrics, and Songs
Song 1: Sail By Awolnation
Song 1 Liner Notes:
Claim: Sail by Awolnation closely relates to Romeos actions and attitudes during the first act.
Data: In sail it says things like maybe I should kill myself, maybe I should cry for help, and maybe Im
not listening. These quotes from Sail can be related to how Romeo felt in the first act. There are many quotes
from act one that relate to Sail as well. Some examples of these quotes are Tut, I have lost myself. I am not
here. This is not Romeo. Hes some other where. Another quote from Romeo is A sick man in sadness makes
his will a word ill urged to one that is so ill. In sadness, cousin, I do love a woman.
Explanation: In act one it is obvious that Romeo is facing many hardships having to do with love. This is
stated when he says In sadness cousin, I do love a woman. He also shows hardship and a lack of selfconfidence when he says I have lost myself. I feel like Sail also has many quotes having to do with a lack
of self-confidence and overall sadness. The main quote having to do with sadness being maybe I should kill
myself. I also believe that the tone of the song is somewhat depressed or hopeless. Due to Romeos current
state it is likely he would want to commit suicide.
Synthesis: Overall love can make people go into a very depressed or sad state. I believe that things such as love
can cause strong emotions to come out. These emotions could lead to something as bad as suicide. I believe that
maybe the song was influenced by a hardship having to do with a failing relationship or emotional hardship due
to its sad mood and depressed lyrics.
Song 1 Lyrics:
Sail!
This is how I show my love
I made it in my mind because
I blame it on my A.D.D. baby
This is how an angel dies
I blame it on my own supply
Blame it on my A.D.D. baby
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Maybe I should cry for help
Maybe I should kill myself (myself)
Blame it on my A.D.D. baby
Maybe I'm a different breed
Maybe I'm not listening
So blame it on my A.D.D. baby
Sail!

Sail!

La la la la la
La la la la la oh!
La la la la la,
La la la la la oh!
La la la la la,
La la la la la,

Sail with me into the dark
Sail!
Sail with me into the dark
Sail!

Song 2: Run By Awolnation
Song 2 Liner Notes:
Claim: The beat and tone of the song Run can be connected to Romeos descent into insanity/ easily changed
emotions.
Data: The Song Run has a tone and beat that matches the last scene where Romeo goes somewhat insane. For
example, during act 5 scene 1 (lines 1-17) Romeo is shown to be in a very happy and positive. It is shown that
he cant wait to see his beloved wife. After Romeo hears that Juliet is dead It is shown that he starts to panic
and get mad. Even towards the end of the act Romeo says he is desperate. This quote is located in act 5 scene 3
lines 58-61.
Explanation: I believe that the song has a dark tone with an almost scary tone. It feels as though the artist is
slowly going insane until he finally pops when it says run. I believe this change in tone is very similar to how
Romeo pops in the final act. Its tone and mood makes the song have that insane connection to the last act of
Romeo and Juliet.
Synthesis: This story shows how Romeo slowly goes insane. In the last act Romeo is seen to be in a state of
shock and rage after finding out Juliet was dead. I think that Romeo should have been more rational and less
quick to judge. His act of Rampage shows that he has little self-control and probably could use some emotional
help. The friar could be a good source of confidence for Romeo.
Song 2 Lyrics:
I am a human being capable of doing terrible things
I am a human being capable of doing terrible things
I am a human being capable of doing terrible things
I am a human being capable of doing terrible things
Theres lightning striking all over the world
Theres lightning striking all over the world

Theres lightning striking all over the world

Theres lightning striking all over the world
I am a human being capable of doing terrible things
I am a human being capable of doing terrible things
Run
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

You people are mistaken if you think that Im awake and celebrating anything that Ive become
Song 3: The Judge By Twenty One Pilots
Song 3 Liner Notes:
Claim: The Judge by Twenty One Pilots can be connected to How Juliet impacts Romeos emotions.
Data: Juliet constantly impacts Romeos emotions as seen clearly twice in the play. The first example is in act 3
scene 3 in lines 111-175. In these lines Romeo is instantly taken out of his depressed state after he is given a
ring from Juliet. Another example from the text is in act 5 scene 1. In this scene Romeo is crushed when he
hears that Juliet is dead. In the song the artist explains how someone almost judges/decides how he feels. We
can infer this when the song says you're the judge.
Explanation: The majority of Romeo and Juliet is revolved around Romeos emotions and relationship with
Juliet. It is shown that Juliet plays a large part in Romeos confidence. In the examples that I gave, Romeo is
seen to be one either end of the emotional spectrum due to Juliets actions. In the song it shows that the artist
may be influenced by someone he refers to as the judge. The artist also references being let free or in other
words, being accepted. This could be related to Romeo longing to be accepted and loved by Juliet.
Synthesis: All in all your other people can have a large impact on your mood and self-confidence. I believe that
Romeo still wasnt cured of his last heartache and couldnt handle and loss. I think that Romeo relies too much
on other people's opinions and needs to gain some self-confidence.
Song 3 Lyrics:
Na na na na, oh oh
Na na na na, oh oh
Na na na na, oh oh
When the leader of the bad guys sang,
Something soft and soaked in pain,
I heard the echo from his secret hideaway,
He must've forgot to close his door,
As he cranked out those dismal chords,
And his four walls declared him insane.
I found my way,
Right time, wrong place,
As I pled my case.
You're the judge, oh no, set me free,
You're the judge, oh no, set me free,
I know my soul's freezing,
Hell's hot for good reason, so please, take me.

Na na na na, oh oh
Na na na na, oh oh
Na na na na, oh oh
Three lights are lit but the fourth one's out,
I can tell 'cause it's a bit darker than the last night's bout,
I forgot about the drought of light bulbs in this house,
So I head out, down a route I think is heading south,
But I'm not good with directions and I hide behind my mouth,
I'm a pro at imperfections and I'm best friends with my doubt,
And now that my mind's out, and now I hear it clear and loud,
I'm thinking, "Wow, I probably shoulda stayed inside my house."
I found my way,
Right time, wrong place,
As I pled my case.
You're the judge, oh no, set me free,
You're the judge, oh no, set me free,
I know my soul's freezing,
Hell's hot for good reason, so please,
I don't know if this song is a surrender or a revel,
I don't know if this one is about me or the devil.
I don't know if this song is a surrender or a revel,
I don't know if this one is about me or the devil.
You're the judge, oh no, set me free, oh no
You're the judge, oh no, set me free, oh no
I know my soul's freezing,
Hell's hot for good reason, so please,
Na na na na, oh oh
Na na na na, oh oh
Na na na na, oh oh
Na na na na, oh oh (You're the judge, oh no, set me free)
Na na na na, oh oh (You're the judge, oh no, set me free)
Na na na na, oh oh (You're the judge, oh no, set me free)
(Josh Dun!)
(You're the judge, oh no, set me free)
Song 4: All of Me By: John Legend
Song 4 Liner Notes:
Claim: Romeos dedication to Juliet can be related to the song All of me by John Legend.
Data: Romeo shows his dedication to Juliet in lines 65-89 of act 2 scene 2. These lines are mainly about how
Romeo is risking death to see Juliet. In the song it says things like You have got my head spinning and
cause all of me, loves all of you. They pretty much are explaining the artists addiction to another person.
Explanation: I think that this song represents someone who really cares for another person due to John
Legends passionate lyrics and very genuine care for whoever the song is dedicated to. This relates very well to

the play Romeo and Juliet. I believe that Romeo cares immensely for Juliet. He would risk his life for her as
seen in my example. It is clear that he has a strong connection with Juliet and wants to be with her all the time.
Synthesis: In relationship it is good to be dedicated to your partner. I believe that this is one Romeos better
qualities. It most likely makes Juliet feel very reassured knowing she has a husband that would love to spend his
time with her and care for her. Overall this connection highlights one of Romeos qualities that makes him a
wholesome character in the play.
Song 4 Lyrics:
[Verse 1:]
What would I do without your smart mouth?
Drawing me in, and you kicking me out
You've got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down
What's going on in that beautiful mind
I'm on your magical mystery ride
And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright
[Pre-Chorus:]
My head's under water
But I'm breathing fine
You're crazy and I'm out of my mind
[Chorus:]
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh oh
[Verse 2:]
How many times do I have to tell you
Even when you're crying you're beautiful too
The world is beating you down, I'm around through every mood
You're my downfall, you're my muse
My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues
I can't stop singing, it's ringing, in my head for you
[Pre-Chorus:]
My head's under water
But I'm breathing fine
You're crazy and I'm out of my mind
[Chorus:]
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me

I'll give my all to you

You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh oh
[Bridge:]
Give me all of you
Cards on the table, we're both showing hearts
Risking it all, though it's hard
[Chorus:]
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you
I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh oh
Song 5: Animals By Maroon 5
Song 5 Liner Notes:
Claim: The song Animals by Maroon Five can be related to Romeos addiction to Juliet.
Data: The character in Animals and Romeo both have a common addiction to their dream girls. For example,
in the song it says you're the drug thats killing me and hunt you down eat you alive. These quotes are good
examples of Romeos addiction to Juliet. In act 2 scene 2 of Romeo and Juliet it shows just how Romeo is
addicted to Juliet and that he cant get enough of her.
Explanation: It is pretty obvious that Romeo is addicted to Juliet. When most people are sleeping Rome is
sitting in the bushes of his girlfriend's house hoping she takes her clothes off. This can make the reader believe
that he loves Juliet a little too much. The character portrayed in the song is also portrayed as an addicted stalker
when it says the lines hunt you down eat you alive. Overall both men portrayed have an addiction to their
partners.
Synthesis: I think that relationships shown in both the play and music video can cause one person to become
addicted and rely on the other partner. I think that this kind of addiction is something we should strive to
remove in todays society considering it was present in Romeos time and now. Those kinds of addictions could
lead to violence and emotional scarring if the relationship goes wrong.
Song 5 Lyrics:
Baby, I'm preying on you tonight
Hunt you down eat you alive
Just like animals, animals, like animals-mals
Maybe you think that you can hide
I can smell your scent from miles
Just like animals, animals, like animals-mals

Baby, I'm
So what you trying to do to me
It's like we can't stop we're enemies
But we get along when I'm inside you
You're like a drug that's killing me
I cut you out entirely
But I get so high when I'm inside you
Yeah, you can start over, you can run free
You can find other fish in the sea
You can pretend it's meant to be
But you can't stay away from me
I can still hear you making that sound
Taking me down, rolling on the ground
You can pretend that it was me
But no
Baby, I'm preying on you tonight
Hunt you down eat you alive
Just like animals, animals, like animals-mals
Maybe you think that you can hide
I can smell your scent from miles
Just like animals, animals, like animals-mals
Baby, I'm
So if I run it's not enough
You're still in my head forever stuck
So you can do what you wanna do
I love your lies, I'll eat 'em up
But don't deny the animal
That comes alive when I'm inside you
Yeah, you can start over you can run free
You can find other fish in the sea
You can pretend it's meant to be
But you can't stay away from me
I can still hear you making that sound
Taking me down rolling on the ground
You can pretend that it was me
But no
Baby, I'm preying on you tonight
Hunt you down eat you alive
Just like animals, animals, like animals-mals
Maybe you think that you can hide
I can smell your scent from miles
Just like animals, animals, like animals-mals
Baby, I'm

Don't tell no lie-lie-lie-lie

You can't deny-ny-ny-ny
The beast inside-side-side-side
Yeah, yeah, yeah
No, girl, don't lie-lie-lie-lie
You can't deny-ny-ny-ny
The beast inside-side-side-side
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yo...
Whoa...
Whoa...
Just like animals, animals, like animals-mals
Just like animals (yeah...), animals (yeah...), like animals-mals (yeah...)
Ow
Baby, I'm preying on you tonight
Hunt you down eat you alive
Just like animals, animals, like animals-mals
Maybe you think that you can hide
I can smell your scent from miles
Just like animals, animals, like animals-mals
Baby, I'm
Don't tell no lie-lie-lie-lie
You can't deny-ny-ny-ny
That beast inside-side-side-side
Yeah, yeah, yeah
No, girl, don't lie-lie-lie-lie
You can't deny-ny-ny-ny
That beast inside-side-side-side
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Song 6: I like Girls By Rixton
Song 6 Liner Notes:
Claim: I believe that the song I like Girls by Rixton represents the theme young mens hearts lie in their
eyes.
Data: There are many examples of these songs relating. To begin, the song talks a lot about how the artist loves
to look at girls and how they look good on him. The artist also gives off the impression that he likes all different
kinds of girls due to their appearance which is a good representation of his heart being in his eyes. In Romeo
and Juliet, Romeo falls in love with Juliet almost instantly as seen on lines 104 to 120. He hardly knows
anything about Juliet in this scene making his love based solely on appearance. Also in the play Romeo had to
see that Juliet loved him (through the ring) making it apparent that his heart relies on what he see. (The ring
quote is located on 173-175).
Explanation: Overall both the artist and Romeo relate to the theme that young mens hearts lie in their eyes.
This is seen in both men due to how they are constantly going after girls primarily on how they look. It is also
seen in both the song and the play that the two men are both very fond of girls and think that their life revolves

around them. The artist explains how he is with girls a lot of the time as well, this relates back to how both
characters love looking at girls.
Synthesis: Both characters are similar even though they were portrayed in different time periods. This shows
that young mens hearts being in their eyes it is a common theme that men have had for centuries. I think that
due to the song encouraging this kind of behavior in men, it makes this theme hard not easy to get rid of.
Song 6 Lyrics:
I like girls oh they always look so good to me
I like girls even though they tease and torture me,
I like girls but I can never choose just one,
That would ruin all the fun oh waho I like girls
Bababum
Oh oh waho I like girls.
I like girls in the summer
Girls in the fall
Girls all year I wish I could have them all
Girls from other countries with crazy names,
I love it when they tell me papi, no engles
Oh wahoh waho oh
Come a little closer
Oh waho waho oh
I like girls oh they always look so good to me
I like girls even though they tease and torture me,
I like girls but I can never choose just one,
That would ruin all the fun oh waho I like girls
Bababum
Oh oh waho I like girls.
I like girls all colours
I ain't got a type
Girls who drink bud not Smirnoff ice
Girls with big booties
Girls in tight jeans
Girls who wanna lay around and watch TV
Oh waho waho oh
Come a little closer
Oh waho waho oh
I like girls oh they always look so good to me
I like girls even though they tease and torture me,
I like girls but I can never choose just one,
That would ruin all the fun oh waho I like girls
Bababum
Oh oh waho I like girls.
I like girls oh they always look so good to me
I like girls even though they tease and torture me,
I like girls but I can never choose just one,

That would ruin all the fun oh waho I like girls

Bababum
Oh oh waho I like girls.
Bababum
Oh oh waahoh I like girls.
Song 7: Last Moment By Christophe Filippi
Song 7 Liner Notes:
Claim: The song Last Moment by Christophe Filippi has a strong connection to the tragic plot of Romeo and
Juliet.
Data: In the song it features a happy and lighter mood at first but then turns dramatic and negative towards the
middle/end. In the play the events go from two young lovers getting married to two young lovers committing
suicide. After the wedding is over things start to go bad such as Paris getting in the way. Paris getting in the way
lead to Juliet faking death. Juliet faking death ended up not being a great plan leading to her ultimate demise.
Explanation: This song actually is pretty accurate to the play. The song itself features a happy beginning but
ends with a dramatic and sad ending like Romeo and Juliet. I thought that it also gave a good sense of rise and
fall like the story. The song also gave a clear message of when it was in a happy mood or a more depressed
mood somewhat like the story.
Synthesis: Overall Tone can influence how a song in interpreted in many ways. I think that this song in
particular gave the listener a good read on how the mood of the song was supposed to be. In Romeo and Juliet I
also thought it had a straightforward and easy to read plot. All in all the play and the song have a similar plot to
them.
