The Crank of a slider Crank mechanism is 15 cm and the connecting rod

is 60 cm long. The Crank makes 300 rpm in the clockwise direction.
When it has 45o from the inner dead centre position; determine
(i) velocity of slider (ii) Angular velocity of connecting rod.

In a pin jointed four bar mechanism ABCD, the lengths of various links are as
follows: AB=25 mm; BC=87.5mm; CD=50mm and AD=80mm. The link AD is
fixed and the angle BAD=135". If the velocity of B is 1.8 m/s in the clock wise

Distinguish between initial tension and centrifugal tension in a belt. (5)

An open-belt drive tonnects two pulleys 120cm and 50cm diameters, on

parailel shafts 4m a part. The maximum tension in the belt is 1855.3N.
The co-efficient of friction is 0.3. The driver pulley of diameter 120 cm
runs at 200 r.p.m. Calculate : (i)
the power transmitted, and
(ii) torque on each of the two shafts.
(10)
State and derive the "Law

ofgearing".

(6)

An epicyclic gear consists of a pinion (25 teeth), a sun wheel (50 teeth)
and annulus (100 internal teeth) which is concentric with the sun wheel.
The pinion mates with the sun wheel and also the annulus. Thd planet
(pinion) gear is carried on the arm, which rotates about the centre of
annular gear. If the annulus is fixed and arm rotates at 20 rpm, then find
(9)
the speeds ofsun and planet gears.
Describe

the eonstruction and operation of any one

dynamometer.

A band brake acts on

diameter which is keyed to the shaft. The band brake provides a braking
torque of 225 N-m. One end of the band is attached to a fulcrum pin of
the level and the other end to a pin 100 mm from the fulcrum. If the
operating force is applied .at 500 mm from the fulcrum and the
co-efficient of friction is 0.25, find the operating force when the drum
(9)
rotates in the (i) clockwise direction (ii) anticiockwise direction.
