Inequality in the World
Ku Klux Klan, Black Panthers, Womens Voting Rights; you dont hear about these things
anymore due to the society in which we live in. Inequality is becoming less of a discussion in the
world today as the 21st century is steadily developing into the new world as we know it. New
countries are being created along with many new dangerous foes that the world has been
focusing on. Two groups, women and the different races of the world have seen the decline of
this and are becoming more of a part to society. Inequality around the globe has been dying as
racial and legal issues have begun to decline seen through sources in the media.
Women have had a long struggle to escape the image of a traditional family servant and
have gained themselves a new independent image that most can admire. This years summer
blockbusters have been dominated by women in leading roles playing action heroines with
extremely independent and powerful traits that all girls around the world can admire, no one
could predict this would be the year that action heroines ruled the roost. (Smith). For the first
time ever in Saudi Arabia women have become able to vote and run for local elections, up to 17
women were elected in races for 2,100 municipal contests. (Zoroya). Women are starting to gain
power even in the most unequal countries in the world! On a recent poll the U.S has been ranked
28th for gender equality in countries around the world with an overall score of .74/1.00.
(Weise). Thats a pretty high score and the U.S has been known to be one of the fairest countries
in the world so the fact that there are many countries ranked higher proves how many extremely

equal places are out there! Not only have women been gaining equality, racial equality is
becoming a rising topic as well.
From the earliest points in U.S history all non-whites have been discriminated against,
but now their equality has been shed into the light and is being fought for even more. Colleges
have been proven to start trying to recruit even more minorities to try to create a more diverse
campus and like the news said Scalia was right about race preferences. (Riley). The more
diversity on college campuses will help students get used to racial diversity. In Southern Oregon
University a group marching for justice is making a statement in Ashland. (Wist). This proves
how many people still care about equality and how is hasnt been given up on yet while whites
and blacks march hand and hand for justice together. Northern Ireland has come up with a new
government legislation to work on tackling racism and hate crimes in the country, the news has
been called long overdue. (Preston). Around the globe governments have been trying to make
their countries equal and fair for all races and this article is very good evidence of it.
All this evidence shows how much our society is changing and how most people are
becoming much more tolerable and open to the idea of equality. All these things also have shown
how advanced we are to be able to communicate around the world and set up these events from
marches to laws so easily. Technology and determined people have become a very powerful
force in the fight for equality. It still may be a while till the world achieves perfect tranquility
through all groups but it is still moving in the right direction. Overall the world is offering many
new opportunities to more and more people as they are finally being able to act freely among
each other from all that has happened.
