Bermudas Support of The American Civil Continuing Slavery

The American Civil War was conflicted throughout 1861-1865 in the Union
which is involved with the Northern State Area), and the Confederates which is
involved with the Southern State areas. Furthermore, a big part of this War was from
Abraham Lincoln whom is a part of the Union and wanted to end Slavery. In
addition, Mr. Lincoln wanted to end slavery by creating the Anaconda Plan therefore
he blocked the confederate with ships so that they would starve and have trouble
trading, getting weapons or selling goods White Gold. Bermuda helped to prolong
the existence of the institution of slavery in America through its support of the
Confederacy during the U.S. Civil War.

Firstly, the Confederacy used blockade runners which are small boats that are
low to the water that are easy to get by the big ships from the Anaconda plan. Also,
the Confederacy used the blockade runners to get goods, and weapons from
Bermuda, Europe, and England. Unfortunately, the Confederacy made slavery last
longer because they were able to get goods such as cotton and tobacco to markets
in Europe and get weapons and supplies which were then used to continue with the
war. According to the Rogues and Runners Bermuda and the American Civil war, the
Confederacy was getting past the Unions Anaconda plan with Blockade Runners that
Bermudians were on to carrying goods back and forth so that the Confederacy
wouldnt starve.

Secondly, there were numerous ships involved in the American Civil War. For
example the Corubia which departed in St.Georges on August 13 th, 1863. The
Corubia had came from Manifest bay and had numerous items and weapons aboard
such as a radio, 50 coils of rope, 190 bates of cartridges, 225 pigs lead, and 226
cases of rifles.

Lastly, Bermudians home town was turned into a boom town due to the
American Civil War. Bermudas heritage of resiliency would extremely impacted by
the American Civil War. According to the Bermuda National Trust the blockade made
Bermudas wealth increase because the Confederate kept sending Blockade
Runners to Bermuda to get goods and it made Bermuda more money. The shipbuilding trade throughout the American Civil War occupied Bermudians with small
farms, fishing, remnants, and warehouses were built. Bermudians owned and
worked on blockade running ships and they sold to both sides during the war.
Furthermore, the Ship trade also helped boost St.Georges income. Successfully,
numerous labourers came to Bermuda to work and help Bermuda out with the
Blockade runners, so then Bermuda more popular and more people continued on
returning to Bermuda.
In conclusion, Bermuda helped to prolong the existence of the institution of
slavery in America through its support of the Confederacy during the U.S. Civil War.
For example, Bermuda was a part of the blockade runners which was caused by the
Confederacy whom did not let the war end quickly and caused slavery to last longer.
Furthermore, Bermudas increased immensely due to the American Civil war.
