1. What is a flat field database?

A flat field database is a very simple database, they store data in columns
of fields and rows of records.

2. What is a field? What is a record? Where are they stored? A field is columns of data in a database file.
A record is rows of data in a database files.

3. Give an example of a database. An address book that has a field and record with information about
peoples name, last name, address, post code and phone number.

4. What can you do in a database other than simply store information? You can search up a certain word
and find the information you're looking for, in order to get the exact information you are looking for, you
can make the search more specific and get accurate information. You can also sort the data to your liking.

5. The video mentions the words ascending and descending. What does that mean in the context of using
a database? Ascending means sorting it going up in a certain pattern like A-Z and descending is sorting it
in a pattern like Z-A.

6. What are different types of fields? Text fields, which store text information like letters and numbers and
symbols. Date fields, which store information like calendar dates(10/11/2015). Time fields, which store
information in a time format like AM or PM or the 24 hour clock. Graphic field, which stores any type of
image. Calculated field, which doesnt have any data in it, it contains a special calculation(formula) to
work out the age based on the date of birth. Number field, which stores information like whole numbers or
decimals.

7. In your own words, what is a database? A data in my own words would be a way to store data that we
can access easily. It is used to organize data so we dont need to, it carries out operations like searching
for a specific part of information that way we dont have to search through the entire database to find a
specific thing. It is used in everyday lives and without it organizing and accessing data of different sorts
would be much more difficult.
