Use only YDK model YC-482 foot controller with sewing machine —_ S mode! 3537 Speed controller This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does ‘ot fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If t still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. Do not modify the plug in any way. 1.Remove or install bulb form Sewing lamp inside of face cover. 2.Open face cover in direction of arrow. 3.Remove bulb by unscrewing it anti clockwise. 4.install a new bulb by screw- ing it in clockwise. 5.Use a screw type bulb with 120V/15W.(Max) REMOVING EXTENSION TABLE 1.Hold the left end of table ‘and pull out in direction or arrow. FREE-ARM SEWING 1.Especially useful when sewing sleeves, pants leg, tubular fabrics etc more easily. 2.7o sew tubular just slip the sleeve or pants leg on the free arm as shown above. 3.This sewing machine can be used as a flat bed machine. but easily converts to free arm machine by removing the extension table. WINDING THE BOBBIN Som thread 1 Release stop motion knob. 2.Thread as shown. 3.When bobbin is filled, tighten stop motion knob iom Push bobbin winder spindle in direction of arrow. When bobbin winding is completed return spindle to original position. ‘insert thread through any hole in the side of the bobbin from inside-out. Leave 3 to 4 inches of thread projecting from the bobbi 2.Place bobbin on bobbin winder spindle and push toward bobbin winder stop to engage the bobbin winder mechanism, 3.Hold end of thread above bobbin and start machine. End of thread should break off after a few turns. If not, ‘stop machine and cut off excess thread. DO NOT let thread go over the edge of bobbin. Machine will stop automatically when bobbin is filled. Open face plate and locate small screw below bobbin winder tension disk. Loosen screw and raise or lower the guide until bobbin fills evenly. Tighten screw when adjustment is correct. REMOVING BOBBIN CASE AND BOBBIN Hinged latch \ 1.Raise needle to its highest ; position and open the 2.Open hinged latch of bobbin shuttle race cover. case and pull bobbin case out of machine. 3,Release ihe latch and bob- bin will fall out easily. 1,Pull off Scm of thread from bobbin and insert it into 2,Guide the end of thread into bobbin case as shown slot. Bobbin must turn clockwise 2.Guide the end of thread into in bobbin case when thread slot. is pulled. = Tension spring 3.Pull into slot and under tension spring anddraw out about 10cm of thread. INSERTING BOBBIN CASE INTO SHUTTLE RACE Hinged latch 1.Raise needle to its highest position, pulling thread to the front, open the latch of bobbin case and hold it. 2.Holding latch open, place bobbin case onto centre pin in shuttle and release latch Make sure bobbin case is securely in place before proceeding to sew. —8— THREADING UPPER THREAD Threading the thread from A to G as shown Twin needle threading 4:Pass thread from spool [A] under thread guide {B] then, 2: down through upper thread tension dial, [C] under check spring thread guide[D] up and over thread take up lever [E], from right to left, down behind thread guides [F and G], and finally through eye of needle. (Needle threads from front to back.) Note: presser bar must be up when threading machine to assure that thread is seated fully into thread tension disk. Twin needle threading: Use two spools of thread, one on each spool pin. Thread from the front spool G should pass through the right side of upper thread tension disk and thread from the back spool through the left side. Follow the same threading sequence for a single needle taking care to not twist the threads. Thread from front spool and right side of tension disk will go through the eye of right needle. Thread from back spool and left side of tension disk will go through the left needle. DRAWING UP BOBBIN THREAD 1.Hold upper thread with left hand, turn the hand wheel slowly towards you until the needle goes down and comes up. Then stop the hand wheel when the takeup lever is at its highest position. Lightly draw up the upper thread and the lower thread will be brought up ina loop. 2.Pull out both threads and place them together under presser foot to the rear of machine. -10— TO START SEWING f Hints. 1,Raise the take-up lever to its highest position when starting and stopping sewing. 2.Hold both threads about 10 cms to the rear of machine for the first two ‘to three stitches. 3.Sufficient fabric should be placed under needle before lowering presser foot. 4.Depress foot/Speed control and start to sew. 5.Test the machine stitches on a scrap of fabric you plan to use, adjusting the machine for the length of stitch and tension suitable to your fabric. Attention. 1.When turning the hand wheel manually, always tum it toward you. 2.Guide the cloth gently with your hand. 3.To prevent breaking needle always stop with the needle out of the fabric. 4.Needle must be out of fabric when changing zigzag width or pattern selector to prevent bending or breaking the needle. =Ai= ADJUSTING THREAD TENSION Correct Fabric Upper thread LL Bobbin thread Upper thread tension may be adjusted by turning the thread Incorrect tension dial. Inside-of fabric Upper thread Bobbin tension is determined by the size of thread being used. To determine correct tension, hold thread as shown in figure on bottom left. If bobbin case slides down the thread, the tension is too loose. Tighten by turning the screw on bobbin case, (figure on bottom right) slightly to the right, Still holding the thread and giving it a slight jerking motion (yoyo action) the bobbin case should unwind a little. The unwinding should stop when the hand action is discontinued. If bobbin case will not slide down the thread, the tension is too tight. Turn the adjusting screw slightly to the left {counter-clockwise) to loosen. Adjusting screw should be tured in very small increments. Upper thread tension can then be. adjusted to form the desired balanced stitch. Tighter tensions can be had by turning the dial to the higher numbers, looser tension is produced by smaller numbers. Lower thread tension can be adjusted by tuming screw on bobbin case slightly to the ( right (clock-wise) to increase y tension. (Anti-clockwise) to the left to decrease tension. -12— CHANGING SEWING DIRECTIONS 1.Lower needle down into fabric and raise presser foot, Pivot the fabric around the Needle to change direction as desired. 2.Put down presser foot and start to sew. =< REGULATING THE PRESSER FOOT PRESSURE 1.Push down lever for desired pressure, for light fabrics set lever at 1, set at 2 for medium fabrics and 3 for heavy fabrics. 2.Insufficient pressure may cause poor feeding, skipped stitches. or difficulty in guiding the fabric. 3.When daming or sewing freehand embroidery release the pressure by setting the lever on 0. 4.Texture and weight of fabric determine amount of Pressure to be used. A general rule is use enough pressure to keep fabric from creeping side to side when sewn. Napped and soft textured fabrics require less pressure to Prevent top layer of fabric from being stretched when sewn. DROP FEED APush feed lever down to drop feed below needle plate for darning, embroidery, and button sewing. B.Push feed lever up to raise feed above needie plate for normal sowing. -14— CHANGING NEEDLE Needle clamp screw Flat face side away from you 1 Raise needle to its highest position. 2.Loosen needle clamp screw and remove old needle: 3.With the flat side of the needle facing away from you, insert needle as far up as it will go. 4 Tighten the needle clamp screw securely. =158— FABRIC THREAD NEEDLE TABLE Please note that the following list is a guide when sewing different fabrics. Cutting thread slot 5.Cut threads as shown on the thread cutter. =i STRAIGHT STITCH 1.This type of stitching is the one used most frequently. 2.The zig-zag presser foot can be used for both straight and zig-zag sewing. 3.For sewing light fabric, use smaller stitch size. (Refer to page 15 for dial setting). ZIGZAG SEWING z Pattern slector position Satin stitching can be used for sewing initials. patterns, applique, etc. -19- OVERCASTING xSS Use these stitches for oversewing rough edges. —aA EF STRAIGHT AND ZIGZAG STRETCH STITCH Use this stitch with knitted.tricot or other stretchy fabrics. The stitch enables your seam to stretch with out breaking the thread. It is also a very strong straight stitch for areas under stress. —20- BLIND STITCH Blind stitch #5, using adjustable blind hem foot. (1) Fold hem back against Fight side of garment with top edge of hem extending 1/4 to 3/8 inch to the right of garment, (2) Place fabric so the straight stitches are on the extended hem edge and zigzag stitch just catches one thread of the fold, (3) Turn the adjusting screw so the guide barely touches the folded edge of fabric. (4) Proceed sewing slowly and carefully guiding the garment fold evenly along the guide, (5) When hemming is completed, unfold garment and press hem in place. 1.Fold fabric as shown. 2.To finish seam as shown. to Adjust fold of fabric to obtain correct seam. (Increase or decrease width setting). 5.Sew about 7 stitches. 6.Pull both threads to the underside and tie together. BINDING To sew fabrics edge to edge select the multi zig-zag stitch. -23- ZIPPER SEWING Select straight stitch, 1. Fold the fabric about 2cm and place fabric under foot. 2. Zipper foot is designed to sew close to a raised edge preventing sewing on zipper. 1. To sew the left side of the zipper, set the zipper foot on the left side of the needle. 2.To sew the right side of the Zipper bring the foot to the right side of the needle. sew as illustrated. —24— BUTTON HOLE SEWING Select stitch length dial in area indicated. Sewing width should not be set beyond number 2 width, exceeding this will result in breaking of needle. 1.With the added width of two needles, care must be taken to prevent needle breakage. Reduce zigzag width according to the size of twin needle being used. Always test to be sure needles do not hit presser foot or needle plate by turning the balance wheel by hand a few turns. 2.1f a twin needle is being used, the needles must be raised when turning corners to prevent twisting and breaking the needles. EMBROIDERY Lower feed dog and move hooped fabric slowly to form the desired effect. (Seepage 14) ~26- QUILTER (Feet shown in procedures on these pages are OPTIONAL.) 1.Slide arm through hole on top of presser foot holder. 2.Move guide to reguired stitch distance. SEAM GUIDE (Feet shown in procedures on'these pages are OPTIONAL.) 4.Use seam guide when sewing a long seam a regular distance from edge of material. 2.Set guide in hole on bed, at right of needle plate, and adjust distance. 3.Run machine with edge of material touching guide. Position cloth guide at an angle to sew a curved seam. ~27- HEMMING (Feet shown in procedures on these pages are OPTIONAL.) 1, Raise the foot and the needle to its highest position. Replace the foot with the hemmer foot. 2. Fold over the fabric edge by about 3mm and place it under the foot. Secure the folded edge with a few stitches. Take out the workpiece and draw the hem into the hemmer foot by pulling the threads. 3. Lower the foot and sew the hem, 4. During . sewing, fold the fabric to the left a little and allow it to run into the hemmer foot. 5. Make sure that the fabric does not move under the right half of the foot. The fabric must be fed into the scroll of the hemmer sufficiently so that the work- Piece edge runs freely through the groove under the foot. Only suitable materials can be used and some practice may be necessary to acheive best results. -28- MAINTENANCE (CLEANING AND OILING) 1. Raise needle to its highest position. 2.
