Use/relationship: The Source Control Drawing Approval Request provides the Government
with a means for approving or disapproving the use of source control drawings for
specific items selected for use in the equipment.
a. This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format and content preparation
instructions for a Source Control Drawing Approval Request resulting from the
work task described by
5.4.1 of MIL-STD-31000.
b. This DID is intended for use in data acquisitions requiring Source Control
Drawings which the Government may use for future procurements.
c. This DID supersedes DI-SESS-81010D and is related to DI-SESS-81000E, "Product
Drawings/Models and Associated Lists" and DI-MISC-80071E, Parts Approval
Requests.
Requirements:
1. Reference Documents. The applicable issue of the documents cited herein,
including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices,
and revisions, shall be as cited in the ASSIST database, http://assist.daps.dla.mil,
at the time of the solicitation; or, for documents not included in ASSIST, as stated
herein.
2. General. Source Control Drawing Approval Requests shall meet the
requirements of MIL- STD-31000.
3. Format. Source Control Drawing Approval Requests shall be in the contractor's format.
4. Content. The request shall specify the following:
a. Nomenclature and description of the item.
b. The critical application(s) for which the item is to be
used. c. Number of applications per end item.
d. Item status as a repair part.

e. System performance requirements requiring source

qualification. f. Procedures and criteria required to qualify
a source.
g. Sources of supply and manufacturers' part

numbers. h. Cost of the item involved.

i. Estimated cost and time to qualify a source.
j. Impact on contract cost, schedule and performance if use of Source Control Drawing
for documenting the item is not permitted.
k. Copy of the approved non-standard part approval request, if the DoD Parts Control
Program is applicable under the contract or purchase order.
