Riverside Police Department Releases 2015 Grant Report

These grants (many of them multi-year) were for traffic enforcement, tobacco compliance checks,
squad laptops, bulletproof vests and equipment.
These were all non-matching with the exception of the federal vest grant, meaning there was no
money required from the Village/taxpayers in order to be eligible for the grant. Chief Weitzel
stated, Were always looking for these types of grant opportunities.
Chief Weitzel recognized Deputy Chief David Krull and Sergeant Jeff Miller for their dedication in
not only seeking out grant opportunities, but their diligence in applying for grants and the
administration and fulfillment of grant requirements.
Grants are not easy work. Even after
obtaining them, all equipment received (as a result of the grants) must be installed, instruction
provided, and implementation of its use is required; as well as keeping track of officers time and
proper paperwork in order to seek reimbursement the Chief later said.
All equipment and training
obtained through the grants
was utilized and directly
impacted Riverside residents.
The Chief stated, These
grants have allowed us to
deliver more efficient police
service to citizens, putting
little financial burden on the
Village and have allowed us
to secure training and
equipment that we could not
have otherwise procured due
to
current
budget
constraints.
