The robot performance can be directed by:


A fixed sequence of steps built into the robot mechanical system
By a preprogrammed sequence of steps which may be changed
from tasks to tasks.
It can be done by programming the required sequence of operations
with an appropriate language that the computer unit understand.
By a preprogrammed sequence of steps which can be modified
through interaction with the environment.
By a indirect human guidance (teleportation), it is used in
construction with in remotely controlled cranes, concrete pumps and
excavators.
