Channing Adams Guy is a freshman at UNCC studying business. He says his first semester has greatly played a part in his personal path of having a human experience both as a student and as a human being. For his practicum, he observed the beautiful gardens on UNCC's campus. The gardens have served as a perfect place to meditate and reflect on anything important in my life.

My name is Channing Adams Guy. I am a freshman student at UNCC
studying business. A human experience is a tendency of a person or place to help elevate themselves as well as others for improvement. A human experience is about being the best person one can be and impacting/enlightening surroundings with the influence of positivity. My first semester here at UNCC has greatly played a part in my personal path of having a human experience both as a student as well as a human being. Having been assigned a practicum in my UWRT 1103 class has played a large roll in forming great positivity and peace within my life. For my practicum, I observed the beautiful gardens on UNCCs campus. During my trips to the gardens I have found great peace and tranquility. The gardens have served as a perfect place to meditate and reflect on anything important in my life. I plan on returning to the gardens periodically during the rest of my time here at UNCC. During this term I have learned a lot, both in my courses and in my life. I chose to live in an apartment off campus this semester rather than living in a freshman dorm. This decision has taught me a lot about what it is like to live on my own. It has been a pretty awesome experience going through this transition in my life. At first, the adjustment was a little challenging. I found the responsibility of independence both eye-opening and bit overwhelming at times. Balancing my responsibility in school with my job and other
interests in life has been somewhat of a challenge and has allowed me to
grow tremendously as in individual. As a student in the UWRT 1103 course I have learned a lot about different literacies and what literacies I can find within myself. Completing my portfolio has shown me a reflection of the work I have put into the course. As I approach the end of my first semester in college, I reflect and praise myself for my dedication and commitment to my education. I am looking forward to the challenges of the coming terms as a college student and positively welcome all opportunities to learn and grow. At the beginning of the course all students received a syllabus that contained a list of five Student Learning Outcomes; rhetorical knowledge, critical reading, composing processes, knowledge of conventions, and critical reflection. I feel that I have learned a lot about myself in relation to these student learning outcomes and it has changed me in a positive way. Of course the things we learn change us! Otherwise, we would never retain anything from our experiences and keep repeating the same mistakes, over and over! I hope the readers of my reflection have learned a lot about the experiences I have over this term and how they have changed me. I buckled down and put effort into finishing the semester strong. As the semester is coming to an end, I look to the future with plans of better time management and success (in both school and life)! I plan on working hard to finish my education here at UNCC and to a way to make money to support the many interests in my life. To everyone who has shared experiences with me during
this past semester, I wish you an abundance of positivity in your experiences
to come along with the necessary negative to allow for continuous growth within.
