Curriculum
Many language teachers
get difficulties in planning
their lesson
help teachers to be more specific in their
planning and prevent classroom difficulties when
they get confuse in explaining something

Investigate the teachers difficulties and practice in designing and


implementing lesson plan in context of 2013 Curriculum

Significance of the
study
Contribute to the government as policy maker to find solution
of problems appear in implementing 2013 Curriculum
Support teachers and school to implement the curriculum
Give a portrayal of designing and implementing lesson plan
of 2013 Curriculum for the teacher.

Definition of lesson plan

Lesson plan is a sequence of related lessons which


are prepared by a teacher based on the curriculum in
order to achieve certain curriculum goals

Characteristic of 2013 Curriculum

Regulation of Ministry of Education and Culture number 64, 2013

(1) Build a spiritual value, intellectuality, and psychomotor domain


(2) Implement what students get in school to their environment
(3) Develop and implement attitude, knowledge, and skill in all situations in school and society
(4) Give enough time to develop attitude, knowledge, and skill
(5) Main competence is explain more in basic competence of the subject
(6) Main competence become organizing elements of basic competence which all the basic
competences and learning process are developed to reach main competence
(7)Basic competence is developed based on the accumulative principle which reinforce and enrich
among subjects and level of education.

Basic principles of 2013 Curriculum

1. Individual differences of learners
2. Participation of learners
3. Learners center activities
4. Literacy activities
5. Feedback and follow up of lesson plan
6. Cohesiveness among the components of lesson plan

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION Designing the Lesson Plan


Core competence and basic competence
Appropriate with regulation of Ministry and Culture Number 64 Year 2013 about Standard of Content
Indicators
Based on the syllabus and develop it in order to be more applicable
Learning Objectives
The teacher determine learning objective based on the basic competence. Appropriate with standard
of content of 2013 Curriculum
Learning material
Learning material is considered based on the basic competence. Then it is developed to get the most
suitable material. The teacher used teachers guide book and students text book to help her in
determining the material

Teaching method
The teacher used Text Based Approach, with model of discovery learning, and techniques of
discussion and assignment
Learning resources
The teacher determined media, instrument, and learning sources based on indicator and basic
competence. She put in the lesson plan that media which is used are several pictures to express if
conditional sentence from various sources such as text book and internet
Teaching Activity
The teacher determined the steps of teaching activities based on the nature of the subject, then she considered
scientific approach which is suggested by 2013 Curriculum. The learning steps were divided into three stages
namely pre-teaching, while-teaching, and post-teaching activities.

Attitude
Rubric in the form of rating scale which consist of honestly, responsibility, discipline, and well behaved

Several questions about if conditional sentence

Performance test
Rubric in the form of rating scale to assess students performance in speaking
Aspects considered by the teacher are pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension
(Regulation of Ministry of Education and Culture Number 66, 2013 on Assessment Standard of Primary
and Secondary Education).

The Implementation of English Lesson Plan


Pre-teaching Activities
The teacher conduct almost all pre-teaching activities based on the lesson plan

It have been conducted in the morning before class is began


To fulfil KI 1 that states Menghayati dan mengamalkan ajaran agama yang
dianutnya (comprehend fully and practice their own religion)

While-teaching activities
1. Observing
The teacher implemented all observing activities into the three classes
The students listen to the music entitled You Can Count on Me (Bruno Mars)
Song lyric with blanks spaces that should be completed by students
Three times for class A
Twice for class B
Twice for class C
The teacher consider the students condition.
She modified the implementation of lesson plan

2. Questioning
The teacher stimulate students by giving some questions related to the song
Students share their understanding and idea about the song
Students tried to identify if conditional sentence which contain in the song
by guidance from the teacher

The teacher conduct all activities in questioning stage

3. Experimenting
She believes that students in class B have higher proficiency than others.
Because of limited time, Guessing Game is not really significant for class B.
Different for class A and C, Guessing Games is expected can support
students to use English.

4. Associating
The teacher asked students to make If conditional sentence and write the
sentence on the white board
The students could find out if conditional sentence from another sources such as
from internet or other text book
The teacher and students then analyzed the sentence collaboratively
The teacher correct the student works on the white board
The teacher gave the examples of If Conditional sentence in Indonesian context
The teacher implemented this stage according to the lesson plan she designed

5. Communicating
The teacher asked one of the students to come in front of the class
and other students could ask him by using if conditional sentence

Teachers Difficulties in Implementing Lesson Plan

Procedure which have been prepared by the teacher is different


with the condition in class.
The teacher modified lesson plan based on the condition in class.
She aware the students condition and tried to find the best
solution for them.

CONCLUSION
The components of lesson plan developed by the teacher were appropriate with the 2013
Curriculum.
The teacher fulfil the standard of component of a lesson plan determined by Ministry of
Education and Culture Number 65, 2013 on Process Standard of Primary and Secondary
Education.

SUGGESTION AND RECOMMENDATION

For the teacher


Improve her understanding about 2013 Curriculum so that she can conduct
teaching and learning process well based on the regulation of 2013 Curriculum

For Ministry of Education and Culture


Enhance the teachers competence by providing seminars, workshops, or trainings
more frequently in order to improve competence of the English teacher

For further researchers


Conduct research with more participants in more than one institution and more unit
of lessons in a longer period of time
