It is sad to say that although the Holocaust is a very important part of history the
school system did not teach me much about the Holocaust. Ive gotten bits and pieces
from some classes but unfortunately it was not a topic that was covered thoroughly in one
class.
The person who started this atrocity was a man named Adolf Hitler who rose into
power the year 1933 in Germany. Hitler turned Germany into a dictatorship and led the
Nazi Party and together they killed 6 millions Jews and 11 million people in total. Hitler
not only wanted Jewish people to be wiped out but he also targeted the disabled,
homosexuals, and many other people. The Nazi Party also murdered children.
I watched the movie The boy in the striped pajamas in one of my history
classes. I learned about the concentration camps Jews were taken to, Auschwitz being the
largest one and the one with the most deaths. Men and women were separated in those
camps, for many the first day they stepped foot in the camp was the last day they ever
saw their family. There were gas chambers in the concentration camps that were used to
kill males, females, and children. They soldiers would lie to the people who were about to
get murdered and would tell them to undress because they were going to shower, they
had no idea what really awaited them. The Nazis made other people from the camp pick
up the dead bodies of the victims.

The concentration camps were so overcrowded people had to slept on top of each
other, they were also very filthy that diseases were spreading quickly and people werent
surviving sicknesses. People starved to death and some people didnt survive harsh
temperatures. The people in the camps were treated like animals. Hitler wanted those
people wiped out completely and all because he thought that they shouldnt exist.
I also learned that United States had the opportunity to help stop this madness in
the beginning but the Big Brother of all Countries did nothing until after the death of
millions. A lot of countries acted as bystanders, they did nothing but watch what Hitler
and the Nazi party were doing to innocent people. Now that it is too late the United States
and other countries regret the fact that they did not act sooner.
Hitler started World War II when he and his army attacked Poland and that is what
led him to his death.
Hitler knew his reign was falling apart so he decided to commit suicide with his wife
instead of being taken away or murdered. The holocaust went on from 1933-1945, which
was twelve years of hell for the people who did survive. Hitlers death was what ended
the holocaust.
One man made many people believe that what he was doing was right. One man
led to the slaughter of millions of people. Hitler got his whole army to brutally murder
innocent people. It is astonishing the influence one person can have on an entire group of
people and what he/she can lead them to do.
