Lesson Objectives:
Students will
Show the steady beat of Pumpkin Patch by patsching
Perform the Pumpkin Patch chant with accurate rhythms
Demonstrate understanding of rhythm patterns during the game
Teaching Procedure
Prepare
1. Please sit on the carpet criss-cross applesauce.
2. Its October, so its fall! The leaves are changing, the weather is getting colder,
and Halloween is coming up.
3. What other activities do you do during the fall season? (Potential answers: apple
picking, raking leaves, trick-or-treating, picking pumpkins)
4. Were going to play a fun game today where well all turn into a pumpkin patch!
Present
1. Say the chant while walking around the room.
2. Repeat the chant and have students keep the beat on their legs.
3. Teach students the chant by chunking.
Practice & Extend
1. Can I have one volunteer to help me demonstrate the game that goes with
Pumpkin Patch?
2. Were going to pretend that were all pumpkins by curling up on the ground.
3. Im going to walk around and tap one pumpkin to turn into a human and copy my
sound like the song says to.
Assess & Close
1. Play the game until everyone has been chosen.
2. Assess students ability to repeat the rhythms accurately.
