Behavior/Ecology
Summary #3

2.D.1: c, 4.A.5: a, 4.C.3: a, 4.C.4: a

Populations, communities, and ecosystems stability are affected by interactions with abiotic
and biotic factors. Species composition and diversity are used to measure and describe the
structure of a community. Species diversity is the number of and abundance of each species in a
particular location. Genetic diversity is the diversity/genetic variability of a species. Genetic
diversity affects a populations ability to respond to changes in the environment. Thus, species and
populations with little genetic diversity are at risk for extinction. Artificial and natural ecosystems
are less resilient to changes in the environment when they have fewer component parts and less
diversity.
