Hardy-Weinberg Lab
Experiment
In this lab, we had allele cards. One had an upper case A and the other had a lower case a.
Those were to represent the dominant and recessive alleles. We then mated randomly to
determine the next generations genotype and continued to do so for ten times for three different
generations. The conditions for the respective trials were complete equilibrium, natural selection,
and then heterozygote advantage. The independent variables were the random mating, no
migration into or out of the room, and no mutations. Natural selection was also an independent
variable. The dependent variable was the change in allele frequencies in the population. The
control was that there was no natural selection. The constants were that we began with
heterozygous genotypes, had random mating, no migration into or out of the room, and then no
net mutations.
