RaeQuan You have worked hard on this essay, and you meet the requirements. I think you can
make some improvements, if this is the essay you choose to revise at the end of the course.
Check out my comments below and let me know if you have questions.

You should include a caption for the image, including its source. You also need a title for the
essay.

Sexual abuse is sometimes overlooked by parents and adults because they would expect for a
child to come to them if something like that was to ever happen. Child protective services agency
investigate about 55% of the child sexual abuse incidents reported to them (Reporting Child
Sexual Abuse). The picture above shows a very graphic image of Disney Princess Ariel kissing
her father. This image was used to promote the wrongful act of sexual abuse. Sexual abuse is
unwanted sexual activity, with perpetrators using force, making threats or taking advantage of
victims not able to give consent. Most victims and perpetrators know each other. More than half
of all reported sexual assaults happen to children ages seventeen and under (The Issue of Sexual
Abuse). Sexual abuse can happen to anyone. By showing this very graphic image of Disney
princess Ariel it will help spread awareness around the world about this serious topic.
Dont double-space between paragraphs.
Most sexually abused victims often tend not to talk about the event and what happened in
the past. According to the Handbook of Child Sexual Abuse it states large national surveys
conducted with adults who were promised anonymity document that the majority of people
abused as children never report during childhood (Steele 101). Meaning the children were too
embarrassed and scared of what people would have thought of them or the way they wouldve
been looked at by society. Todays society is so harsh and will beat a person down every chance
they have. People have to remember that in a childs adolescent years they often look for
acceptance in a place or person where they feel the most comfortable and safe. When a child is
sexually abused at a young age it breaks their trust for certain people and the way they looked at
them after the perpetrator has crossed the line by committing the sexual act. Participants
articulated a variety of factors that influenced childrens reluctance, including a close
relationship with the abuser, fear of not being believed, embarrassment and shame, & concern

for the welfare of others (Anderson, Martin, Mullen, Romans, & Herbison, 1993; Fleming,
1997)(SIC).

Victims that are young do not consent to sexual abuse because they usually are not able to
understand fully what is being proposed to them especially if its coming from someone that has
higher power over them and they feel they have to obey and follow their rules. For example a
coach, teacher, priest, foster or step parent are some highly known perpetrators of sexual abuse.
If you look at Ariels father in the picture he looks very passionate about the kiss. The body
language shows it all; look at the way his body is leaning in towards her and her arms are
somewhat pushing off of him as if she knows something isnt right. About 90% of children that
are sexually abused know who their abuser is; only 10% of children are sexually abused by a
stranger (The Issue of Child Sexual Abuse). Perpetrators often tell children that if they tell
what happened to them theyll hurt their loved ones or take away something the child likes. They
try to bribe and control young innocent minds that cant make proper decisions for themselves or
have the ability to say no. Parents have a difficult time talking about sex and may also have
trouble talking about sexual abuse (Kinnear 32.) If parents wait too long to discuss the topic of
sexual abuse with their children it may be too late; most parental discussions with children
occurred when the child was approximately nine years old. Studies have shown that at least onethird of all child sexual abuse occurs before the child reaches age nine. (Kinnear 32.) This is a
really good paragraph.

There are many different types of treatments for victims that were sexually abused. In
clinical evaluation, the goal is to understand childrens perceptions of their traumatic exposures,
rather than obtain forensically sound disclosures, as these perceptions are most important for
treatment (Truss 143). Therapist try to make this process as easy as possible because they dont
really want to ask or make the child reenact the traumatizing event. Victims often suffer from
PTSD, depression, anxiety, and even sexual behavior problems. Therapist observe a childs
behaviors towards parents, other children, and even to the therapist.
Here is where you should discuss the campaign initiated by the person who did the graphic.
Give some background and show how it relates to helping raise awareness of the issue.
People that are sexually abused should not have to feel like the victim and should have a
voice in society. They shouldnt have to live a life of constantly not knowing who to trust
because they were taught at a young age to not trust certain people because of the things that they
did to them in their younger years.
