| ound the “Unteaching Writing Myths" to be really interesting. | believe that a lot ofthe things that high
school teachers teach their students is to make it easier on the students. Most of the time most students prefer
striciness over a writing prompt where the only directions are to “write about a favorite memory.” | also think that
coming into college and having to releam things that you already know is more valuable to someone's education. In
my opinion, it takes a lot more effort and knowledge to relearn something than it does to lear it the first ime. Being
able to adjust is one of the most valuable sills in life and can be really helpful throughout college and life. Even
though having to reteach can be a nuisance to most college professors, | do think it's @ good experience for the
students and can help them obiain not only better writing skills and more confidence while writing, but better life
skills as well
While reading “Students’ Right to Their Own Language" | had contradictory thoughts. AC first | was thinking
that it would seem uneducated if students all wrote in their own dialects, but as | continued to read | realized how
exciting it would be to read anything in other peoples dialects. Reading in a dialect that one isn't accustomed to
would add academic challenge and diversity to readings making them more intriguing and educational. Also adding
to this idea, students would be able to express themselves and show their cultures. The different dialects would then
also be more understood.

dught for @ while “what am | literate about that involves family?” Well, | know how to love and to be a good
lughter. Sure, everyone knows how to do that, but no one knows how to do it exactly like | do.
Since my parents were divorced by the time | was 2 | struggled with this love concept from both of them
while but after some time they've taught me to love and cherish all things in life as they love and cherish me.
‘entually they both found significant others whom they love very much, and | am very thankful to have in my life.
50 ended up with 4 sets of grandparents, one set in particular that will go above and beyond and jump through
ops to make sure I'm happy. So thus, | have 6 “parental units” as | like to call them, who have helped me leam
Ze and be as good of a daughter as | can. They have been my sponsors of literacy my entire life and not many
rople or events have had quite the impact that they have
