Objectives
Students will be able to sing Jeopardy with proper posture and tone.
Students will be able to play Leave are Falling on xylophone with
proper technique and rhythmic accuracy.
Students will be able to notate music notes correctly and in the
appropriate areas.
Students will be able to improvise within specified guidelines.
Activities:
Lesson:
Note Game on Ground
Students will be in teams by color group.
Students will verbally review the line and space notes.
Teacher will point out the string on the ground that
resembles a music staff.
Students will be asked to think of a three to four letter
word that they can spell out on the music staff.
In color groups, students will, without talking, place
small hula-hoops on the large string music staff laid
out on the floor.
The other color groups will race to write what word
they think that they spelled.
To win: the word must be written on the whiteboard
and the team must not shout out the answer and
raise their board first!
Every color group will have a chance to spell a word.
While the students are placing a word on the staff the
students and teacher will sing the Jeopardy theme song.
Xylophone
-Review A section
(Dependent on where each class is on Leaves on Falling)
-Improvisation
Students will practice playing their improvisation for
the first line
Students will practice making sure that their second
line is different that the first.
Students will think about how melodies go up, down,
and stay the same.
Teacher will write notes to her improvisation on the
board
Teacher will talk students through playing that
improvisation on the board.
Teacher will show the next step that the students will
do in the following week with their improvisations.
