Overview
Freeland has been able to build a SportsZone in order to make it convenient for its residence to
start exercising. However, even though workout equipment has been implemented, and a new
area built, it has been brought to the attention of several residence that there should also be a
swimming pool built within the facility. The following proposal addresses why building a pool
within SportsZone will help raise awareness in exercise, water
Even though the FCSA has been able to provide their residence with the ability to exercise, the
SportsZone has decided to take the next step in getting a swimming pool for its facilities. They
have come to this decision in order to implement a healthy and fun way for families to interact,
especially during the hot summers. However, the biggest issue that is faced is the ability to raise
awareness on children who are not able to swim.
Denny Gatz was a former student at Freeland High School who had passed away June 13, 2010.
Unfortunately, this was due to a drowning accident at the Tittabawasee Township Park while
frolfing (Frisbee golf). In order to prevent such devastating incidents to happen, the FCSA has
decided to move forward with their decision to build a swimming pool to teach kids, teenagers,
and adults ways to swim, and how to save those who are drowning.
Background
The Freeland SportsZone is a fitness facility comprised of 72,000 feet that comes with Empey
Learning Zone, facility rentals, gymnasium, fitness floor, sports development, StrikeZone fields,
tennis courts, and turf room. Since April 1, 2009, the SportsZone has been able to bring exercise
and fitness to the citizens of Freeland, and the people in the surrounding area. It has also been
able to provide a place for youth sports, personal training for fitness, and group fitness classes.
The Freeland Community Sports Association (FCSA) has made it their mission to create sports
and leisure activities for individuals and families in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Need
In order to raise awareness, and in order to prevent these accidents, SportsZone has decided to
move forward to get a pool installed. With a pool built, SportsZone will be able to hold youth
classes and adult classes that will teach swimming techniques. This is also a way to get the
community closer together, for children to get acquainted with their age group, and for these
people to get the exercise that they need.
There will also be the opportunity to give the medical building next door recommendations to
allow physical therapy in the Zone. This creates accessibility as the businesses in the community
as are next door to each other, and create relations for both to further themselves in their
relations. The need for a swimming pool will only help to enhance these aspects in the
community, and to further drive the need for safety and exercise.
In order to create another area where students can come to participate in another sport, a swim
team will be made. In creating a swim team for High School students, they will be able to relieve

stress, create friendships, and allow themselves the ability and strength that a swimmer gains
with this exercise.
Benefits
Opening a pool in Freeland will mean making the community more attractive to potential
homeowners. Instead of having to deal with the costs of building their own pool, they will
instead come to the SportsZone to have fun. Another great benefit to the pool is how Middle and
High School students will have the ability to participate in a new sport. With an added swim
team, it will create another opportunity for students to get together and create a new experience.
This also goes for swimming, CPR, and lifeguard classes that will be implemented with the
addition to the swimming area.
Qualifications of Personnel
Personnel who are hired to become a Lifeguard or instructor must understand different
techniques to swimming, strong swimming skills, and know CPR in case of an emergency. Those
who fail in any of the three important factors to teaching and protecting children and adults will
not be hired.
For those who are to maintain a pool must have a grasp of the maintenance kit that is paid and
given to the maintenance personnel. There will be instructions and a training period for those
who do not have a background in maintaining a pool.
Sources
My data came from several internet sources, and my experience in what students must go
through dealing with loss due to drowning.
Limitations and Contingencies
The limitations to SportsZone are being able to try and implement a pool before the summer in
order to gain a profit.
Scope
The following plan includes:
1. Methods in maintaining a pool.
2. Projected costs for running and taking care of a pool, and the staff qualifications and
wage.
3. A demonstration of feasibility, showing short-term and long-term plans in running and
maintaining a pool in SportsZone.
4. A summary of attitudes shared by our personnel.
PROPOSED PLAN
This plan is designed to gain access and maintain a swimming pool in Sports Zone.
Objectives and Methods
We can gain access and maintain a swimming pool by the following processes:

Maintenance: To maintain the pool, there will be hired workers that will keep the pool clean,
and the pools system working and efficient. If any problems arise, there will be a back-up
funding process created to ensure that the pool is safe and usable.
Reducing Costs: The classes that take place in the SportsZones swimming pool will have a fee
to pay yearly in order to take the classes. These classes will last a period of a few months
depending on age and ability to swim. There will also be three levels to accomplish and graduate
from in order to be become an able and strong swimmer.
As for the swim team, there will be a yearly fundraising event where the team can go door-todoor in order to help promote the swim team and the efforts they are making in order to help
keep their pool maintained.
Management: In order to continue safety and precaution, there will be trained lifeguards.
Lifeguards will help to ensure the safety of the community by being trained in CPR and a strong
background in swimming.
Timetable
In order to build and maintain a pool without losing profit, the pool will start being built April 2,
2016. The expected date of completion will be June 1, 2016. During this time, training will take
place of lifeguards and instructors. Opening day will be June 5, 2016.
Materials and Equipment
The indoor swimming pool will not be heated. However, there are still other materials and
equipment that must go into a pool: maintenance kit, cleaning vacuum, filters, six-month
maintenance and overview, and replacements in the case that the pool malfunctions.
