seethemselves.Thisistoshowcasetheskillsofthatstudenttotheteacheraswellasto
showhowthatstudentviewsthemselvesandwhattheyassociatewiththemselves.

Rationale:
Thislessonchallengesstudentstorepresentthemselveswithoutaselfportraitof
themselves.Thisischallengingandencouragingselfexpressionthroughtheuseofdrawing
skillsorpaintingskillsofthatstudent.Thisalsowillbethefirstworkthattheteacherwillsee
bythestudentandwillhelptheteachertoseewhatleavethestudentsisatintheirskill,this
waytheycanbetterassistthestudentintheirgrowthasanartist.
Summary:
Forthisprojectstudentswillhaveachoiceofusingdrawingmaterials,suchas
pencil,coloredpencils,oilpastelsorcharcoalortheymayusewatercolorsorotherpaintsto
createtheirrepresentationofthemselvesonpaperortracingpaper.Wewillgooverthe
differentmaterialsonhowtousethemcorrectly.Wewillgooverpaintbrushedicateandhow
tocleanoutthebrushesaswell.Wewillgooverwhatthisimagewillbeusedforinafuture
class,thiswaythestudentscanplantheirimagestofitthissecondproject.Studentwillhave
timetoworkontheseandcompletetheminclass.Attheendwewillquicklyreviewthe
elementsofartinpreparationforourdiscussionofourworks.Thenthestudentswillshowthe
classwhattheyhavecreatedandhowtheyfeelitrepresentsthemselvesusingtheelementsand
principlesofart.Theotherstudentswillaskquestionsandgiveconstructiveadviceoneach
other'sworks.
