Reflection Lesson

Uses

of

Plants

This lesson was my last observation with my MCT. I began my lesson with reminding them
the rules. After that, covering the last activity which should be done in the previous science class.
I put that activity as a revision for them about the parts. Because the new lesson about the uses
of plants, and they will know which part of the plant we get this object.
The activity was making a poster by sticking real parts of plant. Students sat on the carpet in a
big circle and I will be sitting with them, the poster will be on the board, the materials of plant
parts in the baskets individually. The kids passed a box contain their name in piece of paper
while singing (What in the box?), when they finished song the kid should choose one name to
help him to paste one part of the plant on the poster.

The unexpected thing, the engagement itself took 20 minutes from the lessons period.
Maybe because there were some kids complaining all the time, and 2 of the kids cried because
they didnt have the chance to participate to this activity. So I had to deal with all this cases.
Then I made a discussion to lead them what kind of uses that we could take from plants.
For exploring, I let them to return to their groups and had an activity to classify objects to (from
and not from plants). I prepared three white boards in each group, the middle board have a tree
with parts name, the right bored labeled to (Not from plants), and the left one is (from board).
They took lots and lots of time to classify them, and they asked some questions and I was passing
around to check their understands.
The time was running, and I had less than 10 minutes to finish, and my MCT had to leave
my class and stopped the observation. I didnt stop my lesson, so I completed as I planned.
To build their knowledge, I present to them a slides that shows each part of the plant that
they had studied, and showed them some examples of uses that we could take and made from
it. It was such a really valuable document that they learned from.
There were two more interesting activity that should scaffold and test their
understanding, but I didnt have the luck to complete them because of the time. So I just pass
them, and moved to rewarding two kids to choose the Superhero, and the Princess of the class.
Most of the kids were crying because they wanted to be chosen. They dint have the acceptance
behavior, that because they didnt use to have rewarding and discipline system in the class.
