1st xv Report

On a day more for the fire than playing rugby Portadown travelled to Dromore in
the league.
Dromore and its position on top of a hill was a wet and windy venue.
Dromore with local knowledge played towards the club house. They pressed
early on and quickly had a penalty from Portadown off side a t a ruck
3 nil down early on Portadown fought back and had Dromore held in their 22 for
a period of time. A missed penalty in the strong wind was all they had for their
pressure. Then before half time they created the space and got to the Dromore
line. With a penalty from the ruck at the line Portadown chose the scrum it 5
metre out. Dromore dropped the scrummed and Portadown just rest to go again.
As Dromore were under pressure and trying to disrupt the scrummy the referee
blew his whistle for a penalty try, converted by Chris Cousins.
THE Portadown pack went straight back into Dromore territory. But a mistake let
Dromore out on the attack. With just metre to go Dromore knocked on. From the
scrum Portadown failed to clear their lines and Dromores hard driving pack
eventually crossed pver and converted to make it 10 7 at the break.
The second held was more of the same but with the wind in the favour of
Dromore they used it to great effect to keep Portadown pinned down.
This paid off for them when got the converted try and penalty to win 20 points 7.

The second game was postponed by Cavan due t bad pitches.


4th xv
The 4s travelled to wind swept Larne to fight hard in the wind to nearly score on
a number of occasion. Jamie Matthews the out half controlled the game as best
he out but the win was strong.
The mixed young and experienced pack held out the larger Larne team and
tackled hard to keep their line in tacked. With the strong winds the ball control
was difficult. Eventually the game settled into a no way gain for any of them.
And as the final whistle blew Portadown Captain Simon Lappin knew he had a
replay at home the next week.
