on the prolongation of line AB. Also find the obstructed distance BD.

4. (a) Explain the following terms: Height of instrument, Back sight, Foresight and
Intermediate sight.

(b) Eight readings were taken with a level in sequence as follows: 1.585, 1.315, 2.305,
1.225, 1.325, 1.065, 1.815, and 2.325. The level was shifted after the third and sixth
readings. The second change point was a benchmark of elevation 186.975m. Find the
reduced levels of the remaining stations. Use the rise and fall method.

5. (a) Discuss briefly, the methods of direct and indirect contouring.

(b) Find the capacity of a reservoir from the data given in table, if the plan from which
the area is measured is drawn to a scale of 1 cm=30m. Find the capacity between the
