Disadvantages of Women
Many people are unaware of how many disadvantages women have in life. Gender
equality is a huge problem in the United States, even around the world. Its a big problem that
does not get the attention it should. Its basically a known fact that men have advantages in life
over females, its been like this ever since life started. Why should women stay at home all day
doing house labor, and chores. Preparing everything for the man of the house. It just doesn't
seem fair. Women should be treated like equal human beings, not property.
I was raised to believe that everyone is equal, no matter what your sexuality, religion,
gender, or beliefs. Everyone is still a human being, yes everyone is different, but it shouldnt
make anyone less equal. I never really knew about the disadvantages that women face until I
started dating my girlfriend. After finding out more about everything women face, I felt disgusted
in a way. Why is life like this today?
It will take a lot of time before women are even equal to men. One of the biggest
disadvantages is the equality in the workplace. Women make up half the workforce in the united
states. Its be known that women are usually paid less than men, women in every state suffer
with this. Some states worse than others. According to AAUW Did you know that in 2014,
women working full time in the United States typically were paid just 79 percent of what men
were paid, a gap of 21 percent? (Hill, par. 3) Thats a decently big gap. Even if women have the
same qualifications to a male, the male is gradually going to be paid more. To make matters
even worse, a women of color is gradually paid even less than a caucasian women. It also
usually takes longer for women to be promoted, also they face at some workplaces; theyll face
some sort of discrimination. The pay difference is not only thing thats wrong in the workplace,
sexual harassment is a huge problem as well. Such as taking advantage of women, saying if

they dont do this, theyll lose their job. Its crazy how some workplaces dont do anything about
this problem. We need more pro equal paying workplaces. Women have even surpassed men in
education. So if anything they at least deserve an equal pay.
Domestic violence on women is a huge problem in the world. This causes events such
as rape, homelessness, and even murder. Women should never have to feel any sort of fear, or
intimidation by just doing normal activities throughout the day. According to SafeHorizon, which
is a website that supports victims of domestic violence, they state that 1 in 4 women will
experience domestic violence during her lifetime. (par. 4) Thats 25%, now that number may
seem small, but its out of 4. Think about how many women there are in the world. Thats a lot of
women who shouldn't have to suffer this.The statistics are huge numbers such as 4 million
women have experienced rape or sexual assault in America. Although the justice system had
done a lot to fix this problem, there still is a lot to be done. Its sad that theres not a lot people
can do. This is a problem that is so hard to fix. Its sad to see that women have to watch their
back while walking down the street late at night, or worry about an abusive boyfriend/husband.
No man should ever lay finger on a women without any consent. You wouldnt want to see your
mother, sister, or girlfriend be a victim or rape, or domestic violence.
Now since this an argumentative essay, although I dont support it, Im going to have to
show you the other side of things. Advantages of women. Some men might say that its just a
tradition that women should get paid less. Ever since the early times of life, the man was the
one who worked and brought all the income to home. Women were supposed to stay home and
do all the chores, and take care of everything. So in long term speaking, men should have the
advantage over women. Other might say that men are more hard workers than women. more
capable of any job. Men often occupy the most dangerous jobs throughout the country, these
are all possibilities on why men do earn more than women.

People might say that women have tons of advantages, such as theyre most likely not
going to drafted into a war, or that they have makeup to look prettier while guys don't have
anything like that. One advantage that women do have that im totally against is In the modern
US, family law favors women to a strong degree. If you marry a man with assets, it's likely you
can divorce and get half of it along with rights to child support and alimony. This gives you a
strong negotiating position in all marital disputes. If the man walks away from negotiations, he
loses 50% of everything. This is less likely to be the case in a marriage in which the woman outearns the man. (par. 3) So what J.C Hewitt is basically saying is that if the man is bringing the
most income to the household, and they get a divorce. The female will receive half of whatever
the male earns. I personally think thats outrageous. Also if youre a single mother now, you are
more likely to receive custody of the kids, but youre also eligible to enter multiple welfare
program where they will help you out. According to livestrong.com Single mothers can still
receive some benefits while working, especially because the system now intends for welfare
recipients to work (par. 5)
So when it comes down to it, yes both genders have disadvantages, and advantages.
Although I believe that the disadvantages of women are extremely terrible, it shows that there is
a lot of work to be done to fix everything. The first thing is awareness, not only men but
everyone should be aware of what kinds of trouble women face in the everyday life. No one
women should have to be scared of being raped or sexual harrased. I bet if we had gender
equality the whole country would do better financially, educationally, and as a whole.
