PART 2: SELF EVAUATION
Fall 2015

Lesson Plan Title: Birds ________________________________

What Children Learned:
1. Describe how the children met/did not meet your behavioral objectives for this Lesson/Activity Plan:
BO #1: Each of the children that matched up the cardstock eggs were able to match them all up correctly. I
had eight different pairs on the table all mixed up each time and they all matched them up correctly.
BO#2: The children who did this activity were able to pick out the birds that fly. They went on to tell me that
penguins dont fly. Then near the end, a child decided to make a collage out of the birds, which was fine.
BO#3: I only got about three children to do this activity. Pixie and Stirling had a rough time putting rhyming
words together. Macie did it without a problem.
2. How will this information on learning and objectives impact your future plans: I was thinking about putting
more of a focus on rhyming words. Children this age should be able to start rhyming and getting the concept
of it. They are really good at matching so that doesnt need much focus. I am not sure if this would be
creative art, but maybe doing a collage art activity. They seemed to like putting pictures together.

Teaching Effectiveness:

1. Was the activity carried out as planned? What changes to your plan were made and why? Did the changes enhance or detract from the
activity?:
Yes, I didnt add the horses to the dramatic play, because I couldnt find them. I think they wouldve been in the way anyway.
I also added legos to the block center. I first thought it was going to detract from the activity, but I think it enhanced it, because the children
that were being distracting to other children went to play with the legos and it made the classroom not as chaotic.
2. Describe and explain the strengths of your Activity Lesson Plan and implementation:
The art center they found fun. They loved the feathers that they got to glue onto the birds. They loved adding multiple wiggly eyes. Circle time was
also pretty fun. It did go a little long, but I still think they enjoyed it. They participated during the book as I asked them questions. They liked
guessing the different birds during our game and they liked the end large motor activity when I dismissed them. They liked doing the actions that they
all wanted to do them at the same time and some of the children were getting mad, because they only wanted themselves to do the action when it was
their turn. They didnt want anyone else doing it with them.
3. Describe and explain the areas for improvements in your Activity Lesson Plan and implementation:
Maybe find a more interesting literature activity. Also, make circle time a bit more shorter, I had it a little longer than usual and they were starting to
get antsy in the end. Add bigger funnels in the sensory table. The ones I put in there got clogged up a lot with the bird seed.
4. Reflect on your teaching experience. What did YOU learn from this activity?
I learned that these children like making collages. They seemed very interested in learning about birds even since I was the last 2500 lab student in
there for the week. They loved the birds nest in the dramatic play, but they made a huge mess out of it. I learned that bird seed is very messy also.
5. Describe and analyze the documentation that you collected (attach all documentation to this form):
I made lists, but I sadly cant find them. I do have pictures though. In the first picture, Jeffrey just finished matching all the eggs together. In the
second picture, Stirling was having a lot of fun matching. Every time he would match an egg, he would clap his hands. In the third picture, Leonveer
is making a bird for his brother, Lyonkesh. He has some feathers and eyes on his bird. In the fourth picture, four children were crammed all in the
birds nest- Jacob, Ryker, Eros, and Max. They were wondering how birds could live in there.
