Effects of Low Physical Activity and Obesity

Abstract
This is an informative paper on Obesity and Genetics. Its ethnicity statistics, and
effects on the body. The rate of obesity has increased dramatically over the years
and is caused by an imbalance between nutrition intake and physical inactivity.
Obesity is everywhere but it differs in different races. With Hispanic/Latino bring
the highest. Although Hispanics have the highest rate it, within different Hispanic
cultures the numbers are also different. Studies of obesity have been conducted on
mice and shows the role genetics play.

Effects of Low Physical Activity and Obesity

Method
Obesity is much often linked with low physical activity. It also leads to chronic
disease, obesity in most people is largely contributed to there level of physical
activity. Some major risk factors of obesity include: un healthy diet, family
lifestyle, and genetics. Obese people have or have a greater chance of developing
coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and the most common type 2
diabetes. Insufficient physical activity is one of the top leading risk factors for
global death. People that are physically inactive have a 20%-30% increased risk of
all cause mortality compared to those who are at least 150minutes active a week.
Obesity is in high numbers and those numbers keep rising as the numbers of
physical activity drop. The problem goes much further than in just America its all
over the world. In countries like: Europe, Argentina, Guatemala but with Mexico
in the lead as the country with the highest amount of obesity and disease. Overall
obesity is proven to be higher in he Hispanic/Latino race. In the United States we
have the Hispanic race as the highest race that is over weight and diagnosed with
type 2 diabetes. Family and lifestyle factors are associated with low physical
activity and obesity. Along with the social class individuals are in. The relationship
between income and weight can vary by gender, race-ethnicity, or age. Individuals
of low income are likely to have a less healthy diet or low-fat diet. As well as an
incredibly low level of physical activity. Child obesity is at its highest with no
physical activity introduced to children the numbers will continue to rise.

Discussion
Physical activity is an important factor in the evolutionary of our species. Very
recently it has been replaced be a sedentary lifestyle. And the excuse given to do
any kind of physical activity is lack of time. Inside a body there is a tissue
(adipose tissue) it is a tissue that is a key player in obesity-related metabolic
dysfunctions. Scientists are studying the relationship between our DNA and our
diets to discover the root cause of obesity. In the past years, scientists have
discovered dozens of obesity-related genes, like the ones that control the size of
our fat cells and our metabolic rate. There are many diets that people follow but
different diets work for different people. And then there are some individuals that
eat anything and not gain a pound. That caused scientist to take a closer look and
discovered a certain gene that may also be a contributor in obesity. Its called SCD
(Stearoyl-CoA desaturase), and it has an enzyme that converts certain saturated
fatty acids into unsaturated forms. The unsaturated fats are the building blocks of
many types of lipids and the main concept of body fat. A study conducted on mice
show that mice that lack the SCD gene cannot store fat from food or make new fat
from carbs. Instead they burn calories very quickly. But latest studies have proven
that in todays world excess amount of sugary and starchy foods acts directly on the
gene in the liver and boost the making of fat, and the bodys natural energy
balance is lost, and increasing levels of fat storage. This is where physical activity
comes in. A healthy weight is when your energy in equals your energy out.
Energy in is the amount of calories you get from food. Energy out is the amount of

energy your body uses for things like digesting and being physically active.
Weight gain happens when there is more energy in than energy out. There have
been many different studies and experiments linking obesity with diabetes as well
as obesity and low physical inactivity. It is proven that walking 2 hours a week is
help to lower chance of being obese. The numbers of obesity are higher in the
Hispanic/Latino race.. More than 77% of Mexican American adults are
overweight or obese. Mexico has a percentage of 32.8 of obese people. Argentina
having a 29 %, and Brazil has a 15%. All of the people from these countries are
considered Hispanic in America. The most common excuse given by everyone is
lack of time and on the other hand many doctors (in Hispanic regions) are giving
insufficient advice about exercise and not informing them on what a healthy
balanced diet is.

Conclusion
Due to rapid increases in childhood obesity there has been organizations forming a
global alliance for the prevention of childhood obesity and chronic disease.
Alliances agree on best-practice strategies that can be recommended to prevent
obesity and type 2 diabetes. They determine which strategies are effective to keep
using and perfect.
Overweight and obesity, and their chronic diseases are largely preventable to
anyone. An awareness builds; more and more organizations, and states are
targeting this disease. There many strategies that are trying to be worked with

,like making healthy food and beverage choices available everywhere; changing
marketing about nutrition and physical activity; using schools to promote healthy
weight, modifying the design of buildings to encourage they use of stairs, and
urging employers and health care professionals to support healthy lifestyles.. The
fitness industry has taken a rise over the past couple of years. This has prevented
many from becoming obese and has helped obese people become healthy.
