August 2015

" Wow" it's August already just got back from the Grand Lodge
session. I learned a lot more and met with the Grand Exalted Ruler.
Will talk more about the session at the next meeting. I will welcome
our new members who were initiated at our last meeting while I was
away. Thanks to all of our members who have supported and made
all our events successful. Our antler room is booming and the meals
have been awesome. With out your continuing support we could not
be as strong as we are today.
Please read the rest of the events that are up and coming. We all
know it takes a lot of members and volunteers to run and make our
Lodge successful. I want to say "Thank you" to all who have helped
by volunteering to do so many jobs here at out lodge, but remember
we can always use more help so "Please" consider volunteering for
one of many projects or events and also "Please Sponsor" a friend or
call someone on the lapses list.
Fraternally yours,

Officers

I offer my sincere thanks and
appreciation for the faith and trust you
have placed in me to serve as your Grand
Exalted Ruler. It is indeed my honor and
privilege to accept this role and my desire
to show that your confidence has not been
misplaced. As Nancy and I travel our
great country, visit your Lodges, and
attend your State Association meetings,
we know we will be inspired to hear
about your many acts of kindness, charity
and brotherly love. It is our hope that we
can return the favor by inspiring you to
build on those endeavors in order to
accomplish even more in the name of
Elkdom.
Elks Pride Community Focus is
my theme for the year. It speaks to our
responsibility to each other and to our
obligation to the communities we serve.
Elks Pride is the expression of our
dignity, joy and self-respect. It begins

So, You Want to Be Reinstated? Its easy to do.

It is really quite simple to reinstate your membership in the Elks!
Reinstate in your same lodge:
Go back to your old Lodge and ask the Secretary for an Application for Reinstatement. Fill
out the form. Pay the prescribed fees.
Your application will be forwarded to the Investigating Committee, who will contact you for an interview. After the
interview, the committee will make their recommendation to the members at a regular meeting.
After the Lodge vote, you will be notified by the Secretary. You will be required to pay a prorated portion of annual
Lodge dues. Then you will be issued your membership card.
Reinstate in a new lodge:
Should you wish to reinstate your membership in Elkdom with a Lodge other than the one in which you were
initiated, you must reside in the jurisdiction of that Lodge. Before you reinstate you have to obtain a Certificate of
Release from your old Lodge. Write a check payable to the old Lodge in the amount of $10 and ask the Lodge
Secretary to forward a Certificate of Release.
When you receive your Certificate of Release present it to the Secretary of the Lodge you want to reinstate your
membership with. Then you would go through the steps described earlier.
If a Lodge has no proof of prior membership, the burden of proof falls on you. Proof of prior membership can be:

An old membership card

A canceled check
An affidavit signed by two members attesting to prior membership (It must be notarized)

If you cannot provide proof of prior membership, it will be necessary to apply for membership as a new member.

About the Elks National Drug Awareness Program

The Elks National Drug Awareness Program strives to teach all children and parents about the dangers of
illegal drug use and prevent the abuse of legalized and prescription drugs. As the largest volunteer drug
awareness program in the United States, the program relies on state, district and Lodge volunteers to promote a
drug-free lifestyle. By taking pride in Americas communities and youth.

Taking pride...in community

Since 1982, the Elks have developed an effective, community-based drug prevention
program by partnering with federal agencies including the Drug Enforcement Agency,
Office of National Drug Control Policy, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration, and national organizations such as Pride Youth Programs. These
partnerships ensure the Elks Drug Awareness Program addresses the leading drug abuse
issues facing communities today.

...in youth
Elks believe that the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. With that in mind, the Elks Drug Awareness
Program reaches out to youth of all ages and backgrounds. Through the 2,100 Lodges in communities across the
country, Elks work to combat youth substance abuse. Elroy the Elk, the programs mascot, reminds young kids that
hugs are better than drugs, while older kids see the affects of alcohol consumption by wearing fatal vision goggles.

Taking pride......to educate

Every year, the Elks Drug Awareness Program hands out more than seven million
pieces of anti-drug literature to parents, teachers and kids. The brochures are primarily
distributed through the programs 90 drug education trailers, which travel to community
gatherings, such as fairs and sporting events. The Elks have also teamed with Marvel
Comic Books to produce a book featuring Marvel superheroes and Elroy the Elk in a
battle against underage drinking. Other educational materials offered by the program
include prevention tools for parents, videos, coloring books, posters and public service
announcements.

...to inspire
From a young age, the Drug Awareness Program asks kids to think about what it means to be drug free. Through
the programs annual essay and poster contest s, kids can express their feelings on rejecting peer pressure. At
events, including Red Ribbon Week ceremonies, Elks and their friends serve as role models who show kids that
living drug free is the way to be.
