I am writing to you about the major health concerns within you county and three other
county directors (San Diego, San Bernardino and Kern County) along with three nonprofit organizations that can be beneficial to this letter. We have noticed many deaths
related to coronary heart disease, diabetes, death by zip code, and morbidity of
gonorrhea this past year.
In this past year we have seen that unhealthy diets have caused an increase in diabetes
cases. While your county seems to have the lowest diabetes rates between the four
counties according to the California Department of Public Health, it is still a major issue
within the counties. Many diabetes cases go undiagnosed for many years, which can
cause serious damage to ones body. Diabetes is now being predicted to affect one out
of three children. Children who are widely exposed to food that is high in sugar and fats.
Unhealthy diets can also be a major factor in coronary heart disease or coronary artery
disease. While the CDPH shows that your death rate is not the highest out of the
counties, it is still rather high. Coronary heart disease seems to be one of the leading
causes in death within our country for both men and women. On the chart below you will
see the death rates per county for both diabetes and coronary heart disease.

For morbidity of gonorrhea the male case rate is about double the amount of the case
rate for females. The problem with STIs is that they are dormant within individuals
causing them to become carriers without knowing. This helps pass on gonorrhea at a
quicker rate due to the partners not knowing about the others health concerns. This
particular health concern is also being spread by the failure to use proper
contraceptives, such as condoms.
Our main focus is to shed light on treatment and prevention options. To be able to let
the counties know about these health concerns and educate them on how to prevent
them from happening in the future.
I hope we are able to work together to spread the awareness of these health concerns,
to spread the knowledge of how to prevent these health concerns as well, and promote
healthy lifestyles. If you have any ideas on how to benefit the counties, please feel free
to email me at: katelynn_munoz@yahoo.com . I am looking forward to working with you
on these endeavors. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,

Katelynn Contreras-Munoz
