Nursing Department

December 7, 2015
To whom it may concern:
I am pleased to provide a letter of recommendation for Amy Boyd, who is currently a nursing student
within the Associate in Science Degree in Nursing/Transition for Licensed Practical Nurses (aka LPN-RN
Transition) Program at Kapiolani Community College with an anticipated graduation in December 2015.
As the counselor for the KCC Nursing Department, I've had the privilege of assisting Ms. Boyd for the
past five years, when she began to enroll in pre-nursing courses at KCC in Fall 2010. As the nursing
department counselor and having worked with many students, I greatly admired Ms. Boyd's thoughtful
perseverance as she worked diligently to complete the nursing program's admissions requirements. As a
pre-nursing student, while completing the prerequisite and co-requisite courses for the nursing program,
Ms. Boyd maintained a stellar 3.9 grade point average (based on a 4.0 grade point system). As of
Summer 2015, her cumulative grade point average for all coursework completed at KCC is 3.93.
Working through the nursing career ladder, Ms. Boyd first completed the KCC Practical Nursing Program
in Summer 2013, wherein she maintained a stellar 3.89 grade point average for her nursing courses.
Subsequently, Ms. Boyd was accepted into the KCC LPN-RN Transition Program in Spring 2014 and is
currently in her final semester, ultimately enrolled in NURS 360 Health and Illness III (9 credits) and
NURS 362 Professionalism in Nursing II (1 credit). Throughout the past three semesters, while enrolled
in the Transition Program, Ms. Boyd has maintained a stellar 3.87 grade point average (based on a 4.0
grade point system). In addition, she has received positive feedback and remarks as part of the final
evaluations for the clinical practicum segments within her nursing courses.
Demonstrating leadership as a nursing student, Ms. Boyd is currently serving as Vice-President for the
Student Nurses Association (SNA) at KCC during the calendar year 2015, wherein she has
coordinated many opportunities for KCC nursing students to volunteer their time and expertise in a wide
variety of events in service to the community. During her term as the SNA Vice-President, her classmates
and peers could always count on Ms. Boyd to be a responsible, conscientious and enthusiastic nursing
student leader.
