Life is unfair. Human society is full of negativity and many have gone through a
moment represented by this quote. No one can clearly locate the source of unfairness
within humanity as if its part of human nature. Indeed, it can be caused solely by
humans. Segregation, racism, and stereotypes are common examples of unfairness.
Holocaust and slavery did not have to happen; however, it is the humans who
progressed this phenomenon into a homicide. Although they may not pose direct harm
immediately in any ways, people tend to feed this issue until it becomes a monster of
hatred. But this history is only natural. There also is direct harm that can be caused by
unfairness such as killings and shootings. Humans will incessantly compete with one
another and set hierarchy. And this cycle is necessary for individuals to gain power in
order to protect and survive such as a mother animal needing to hunting other animals
to feed her children. Unfairness between will have to exist in order to prevent
deterioration as in Harrison Bergerons excerpt where everyone is forced to be equal by
suppressing talents. On the other hand, an episode of film Black Mirror I watched
contains gender inequality in post human society caused by advanced technology as
well as unfading human nature. Even with advanced technology and more comfortable
lives, humanity does not forfeit their nature. Famous actress figures such as Emma
Watson, who has vast amount of social support, can only promote equality. As a social
scientists such as Francis reassures, humanity will never forfeit their nature. Equality

can bring peace, however, I believe that equality is choice of humanity that should not
be accomplished because of nature of humanity as an animal where they constantly
have to be superior than something else in order to survive and protect.
In the episode of Black Mirror, Liam and his wife Fi goes through a series of
events regarding her cheating and their past. The dystopian setting of this episode
provides a memory chipset inside the human body called the grain. People are able to
rewind their memories mechanically and also present them to others using televisions.
Throughout the episode, Liam and Fi are always watching and talking about each
others memory and their own. One day, Fi's old friend named Jonas and other friends
of Liam and Fi have a dinner together. They watch some memories of friends, then
Jonas leaves a statement regarding his past sexual relationships with his ex girlfriend
which is Fi. Although Jonas did not specifically stated Fi's name, Fi's friendly gestures
with Jonas gifts Liam a heavy present of jealousy. This toxin leads Liam to break into
Jonas's house and threaten Jonas with a weapon, requiring Jonas to delete all his
memories about Fi. When Liam comes back to his house, he questions Fi about Jonas's
recent memory of Fi in her room with no shirt. Liam demands Fi to show him the
memory of intercourse to prove that Jonas used condom. Fi is very reluctant and does
not want to share the memory, however, Jonas forces her to show it and ends up
breaking up with Fi. Even though she had cheated, her memory should be of her own
and sharing should have been her choice. Unfortunately, the fact Liam was the man
allowed him to have advantage in the situation whereas Fi was physically and socially in
an inferior position. If Liam was to be the cheater, situations as Fi threatening with a
weapon to obtain other people's memory would be much less likely. This difference in

gender role is an example of unfairness that people deal passively in their lives and this
will never fade away no matter how advanced technology gets.

On the other hand, this device called "grain" intrudes personal space of
individuals should have over their memory. During the dinner, Liam's friends ask him to
share his shameful memory at his job interview where he gets denied. This availability
of memory sharing not only causes excessive views of memories, but also vulnerability
in protecting individual's memory. There should be a certain will and protection
guaranteed for individual's feelings, emotions, thoughts and memory. However,
superfluous technology for mere comfortability seems to make people forget about
some essential manners as a human being. Chasing for comfortability, people are
running away from virtues of oneself and respect of one another. If humans were to
remain with courtesy, none of the characters in Black Mirror would've so easily intruded

and violated into someone else's private memories. This also represents a huge
problem of present day, Security. Excessive usage of internet and its private information
leaking has attacked its users in many ways past decade. An usual example would be a
stolen credit card.
Strength also grants unfairness. Even this month, there was a mass shooting
right in my state. Two men who possessed armory murdered fourteen innocent people
in shooting. The kind of power possess isnt wrong. This power of armory can be used
to protect against evils and threats, however, those men decided to take offense with
their power. Even without armory, humanity takes offense with any kind of power they
possess over others. Violence never ends in human history and never will. Violence is
pure essence of humanity as animals.
Nature is largely ignored in social sciences (Francis). Social sciences often
focuses on equality and fairness; however, those are the opposite of innate human
ethics. Stated clearly from Bishop, "The whole thing rests on a world views that says we
must constantly strive to be better than someone else". Humans are born with
competition. There were no such thing as democracy in human history. There always
was a hierarchy of some sort, and there always was an unfairness. Even when the law
states equality, the law will not have any power without people enforcing it. Posthumanism leads us to temporarily forget those innate senses and establish non-human
values such as gender equality. The norm of gender equality has been progressing
significantly with technology such as movies (where some movies show women with
superior characteristics). Feminist figures such as Emma Watson gained her reputation
over her currier as an actress in movies and wielded her power for feminism. Without

her essential role in famous film series "Harry Potter", she will not have gained such
reputation and respect from others (especially from men) on proposing gender equality.

Emma Watson- Just Say No.
Equality can provide harmony and peace. But this peace will not progress
humanity nor comfort them. Every being has different necessities. If food are to be
broken down equality, there will be some who will die from hunger. In order to patch this
harm, system will need to provide more or less food to some and identify it as equal.
Humans cannot be equal because many are born different. Whether it is physical, or
mental, this is undeniable truth of this world. Furthermore, equality can actually bring
(deteriorate?) to humanity. Harrison Burgeron is a good example of destruction equality
can cause. Everyone is equal that system deducts humanitys potential and talent to its
lowest possible. This makes humanity just as inferior as mere dogs inside their cages.
People cannot progress on their own without systematic restrictions. And that is the way
equality can be proposed, through deterioration. There always will be some individuals
inferior than others. The inequality itself is not what causes harm. It is humanitys
decision to feed this inequality until it becomes a monster that savages inferiors.
Although social media contributes to gender equality among other issue such as
racism, the unfairness should not abolish. This equality will not be granted to humanity.
Maybe humans have already been chasing comfortability for too long. The addiction to
technology make humans forfeit who they organically are. Instead of making food,
people order food. Instead of breeding animals, many just buy one. Instead of talking to
each other using voice, people send electronic messages using touchpad. Now humans

Oh 6

think that they can defy their own innate nature of survivability. However, inequality can
create harmony. It is only humanitys choice to bring destruction upon name of inequality
such as mass shootings. Nature is still beautiful with its hierarchy. Hierarchy is what
makes nature beautiful. If every plant and animal were to be the same, the nature will
be boring and basic. The differentiation, and hierarchy between organisms are what
creates harmony of the nature. Inequality is a beautiful nature.
