WW16

For my essay, Im planning to write out escapism (through video gaming) and why
its beneficial. If you take a quick look at mainstream media, youll see all kinds of
articles making wild claims about gaming being horrible, being murder simulators,
and the reason why certain people are committing terrible acts. Im hoping to make
a case for gaming in a more positive light.

I have the belief that video games are a positive addition to the world. Like I
mentioned earlier, the focus will be on the escapist angle and why being able to use
games to step outside of yourself for a bit is a good thing. The evidence will be
pulled from a variety of sources. Some will be on gaming in particular, but others
will be about escapism itself.

The opposition will need to be addressed though. By that I mean the idea that video
games encourage violent actions in the real world. Ill need to look into studies done
on this very subject, but if memory serves, no co-relation has been find between
violent video game playing and the performance of physical acts of violence.

I hold these beliefs and Im hoping that through this project, I can better formulate
my thoughts surrounding it. If I look through the evidence and find that my position
is flawed, I will re-evaluate my beliefs accordingly. I want to put across that the
essay isnt just an attempt to support my opinion, but its an exercise in
investigation and developing further.

Briefly summarize articles
Write out rough draft

WW22

Im hoping to communicate escapism is a good thing.

o Feel it needs some refining
Too short, needs expanding
Havent done quite enough. Need to bring more to the table
So far, narrative style seems to make reading easier

Content is moving in the right direction, but there isnt enough to make a
decent case.
I think what Ive put in clearly relates to my topic.
More evidence in support of the idea of escapism as something positive
would always help.
I think I havent included anything irrelevant

My organizational strategy seems to be pretty loose. Its organized in such a

way that allows for a more narrative flow in the writing style.
The essay seems to follow appropriate conventions for the
subject/audience/context.
I set the essay up the way it is in order to try to bring the reader into my
frame of mind. Im trying to get them to not just see the logic, but feel how
Im thinking as I explore this idea.
I havent tried outlining or summarizing because they just dont seem to
work well for my writing style. It feels confining and I find myself struggling
to find anything to write.
