Dear Dr. Bruce,
The purpose of this letter is to present to you my progress as a student in this class by
presenting you with my works throughout the semester. These works will demonstrate that I
have successfully fulfilled all of the Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) listed on the syllabus.
The included texts are as follows: The Ifixit Progress Report Memo, and two e-waste
presentation slides. The ifixit progress report includes my peers comments, and your comments.
Contained with the progress report is also the original work and the rewritten work. The e-waste
slides contain only your comments. My works are listed in order of increasing writing
importance. This means that works that required more attention than others will appear later in
the letter.
The second work I will present to you are my two e-waste presentation slides. This work
represent my completion of the ethical citation, persuasion, and language and design SLOs.
This work fulfills the ethical citation SLO in a few ways. Firstly, I cited two sources, one from a
book, and one from website. Secondly I organized these two sources by giving citations at the
beginning of my slides. This helped set the tone of what my slides were going to discuss, and it
helped give my information on those slides credibility. Since the e-waste presentation was about
bringing awareness to conflict minerals, this work also satisfies the persuasion SLO. The SLO is
satisfied because the objective of these slides is to persuade the viewer that conflict minerals are
a problem, and it does so by providing information about where materials that are in electronic
products come from. This work satisfies the language and design SLO as well. By not using
bullet points, my slides became more appealing to look like. I also made the text bigger and
created sufficient white space in my slides which makes viewers less likely to get bored and
avoid the risk of not paying attention to the information provided on the slide. There were
challenges when doing this assignment, mostly associated with choosing appropriate resources to
use for my slides.
The final work I shall present to you is my ifixit progress report. This work fulfills the
SLOs of collaboration, organization, and rhetorical focus. This work was done with the help of
my ifixit team, so this is why the progress report fulfills the collaboration SLO. This work
satisfies the SLO of organization because the progress report is structured as to show increasing
progress towards completion of the ifixit project. This work also satisfies the rhetorical focus
because we wrote a formal progress report to the ifixit team detailing the progress of our project.
We had to take into consideration that the ifixit team is a group of people who have vast
knowledge about electronics, so we wrote the report based on this knowledge. My team, as a
whole had to evaluate the situation we were in with our project and analyze what we needed to
do in order to complete it. There were challenges presented when constructed this progress
report. One challenge was deciding how to construct the progress report as my group, and

myself had no experience writing a progress report. Another challenge that presented itself
during this progress report was that the schedule of my teammates rarely matched up with each
other and as a result we had to work on the report independently, but this challenge was reduced
thanks to using google drive.
Going forward, I appreciate learning how to write memos, and becoming more efficient
when researching an unknown topic. Going forward, this will help me in my career as I plan to
go into research where reports must be given periodically. Through this cover letter, I have
analyzed my works and will continue to improve as writer. Thank You for reviewing my cover
letter and I hope you enjoy reading through my works.
Sincerely
Eduardo Barrios
