I have graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso on May 17th, 2014. Earning a
baccalaureate degree in nursing. Throughout my journey I not only gained clinical skills but
gained knowledge needed to become a great nurse. I also believe I have grown as person, learned
how to listen to different perspectives, and be truthful to myself and others.
The unit I am interested in working for would be the medical surgical unit. As a student
nurse I was privileged enough to do my medical surgical clinical rotations for my 7th and 8th
semester at the University Medical Center of El Paso. During these rotations I was able to
observe how this unit works as a team and that each staff member is willing to help one another.
All staff members concentrated on the patient care and were supportive to one another. All
questions were answered by peers, charge nurse, and unit manager. While my clinical rotations,
staff was student friendly. Doctors, nurses, and charge nurses are willing to help in any way
possible and in any opportunity they are willing to educate new nurses as well as student nurses.
During my last semester I was able to establish a structure of care taught by preceptor and was
able to care for patients. I appreciated the time of my clinical rotations and gained valuable
knowledge through this journey. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to work in this type
of environment and to be able to gain more knowledge and build on a base for future experience.
