Classroom Climate
Classroom culture and context
Observe the classroom climate and answer the questions below.
1. Is the classroom climate purposeful and task orientated? Give
an example.
The teacher gave students a meaningful task and its related to the
lesson. For example, the lesson was about letter F, the teacher shows
them pictures that their names start with letter F and before the lesson
end, she gave them a sandbox to write letter F in it.
2. Is the classroom climate relaxed, warm and supportive? Give
an example.
Students were comfortable in the class, but the class was not
supportive. For instance, while the teacher was explaining the
worksheet to students, one of the students was writing in the
worksheet and the teacher punished him. So, this is not supportive
because the teacher didnt try to understand the student and directly
punished hem.
3. Does the classroom climate have a sense of order? Give an
example.
Yes, the teacher has a stable routine. For example, the teacher enters
the class, she says good morning to students. Furthermore, the teacher
let students post their cards on the students board attendance and
then she choose an assistant student for her to count how many
students are in the class. After that, review the previous lesson to them
and then start giving students new lesson with tasks.
4. How did the teacher build on intrinsic motivation?
The teacher strengthens internal motivation for students in the study,
by tells them about their dreams. Like, one student his name is Yousif,
he didnt participate in the class and the teacher know that he wish to
be an army man. Moreover, the teacher told Yousif; if you participate in
the class your mark will get higher and in the future you will be one of
the men who in the army. So, concentrate with me in the class and try
to participate with us.
5. How did the teacher build on extrinsic motivation?

The teacher strengthens external motivation for students by reward

them. For instance, she told students if you complete the activity in 15
minutes with a good behavior in return I will give you a sticker with
chocolate.

6. What sort of relationship did the teacher have with the

students? For example, was there mutual respect and rapport,
did the teacher act as a good example, did s/he use humor?
A positive relationship between the teacher and students. For example,
she respects all the students and their condition, in return these
students respect their teacher and also the teacher act as a good
example because students are in a stage that they imitate everyone in
front of them. Additionally, the teacher has a sense of humor because
she has a great communication with students and laugh with them.
7. Describe the classroom appearance in terms of the layout.
What did you like not like about it and why? What would you
change or not change and why?
The classroom has an appropriate appearance for students and I like
the arrangement of the areas that the teacher sits it up. While I didnt
like the size of the classroom, because there is no space for students to
move easily.

Motivation
Observe and record strategies used by the teacher to motivate
the students positively to learn.
Strategies used by
teacher

What children did

How useful it was

The teacher has a

special gift box for boys,
girls and she use it
when the students
participate in the class
or act with good
behavior.

Students were very

excited for this reward gift
and they did many good
things in order to earn
gifts. For example, they sit
quietly during the class,
listen to the teacher, focus
and participate with the
teacher.

It was beneficial for

students because they
like this reward and they
was doing everything
that teacher told them
to do, only to get these
gifts.

1. Did the teacher use praise? Which students did she praise and
why?
Yes, she praises students who act with good behavior. For instance, she
praises students his name is Saeed because he be attention in the
class and help other students during the activities.

2. Which of these strategies would you use/not use? Why?

I will use both of them, because these two strategies are motivated
students to behave with a good attitude and be a good model for other
students.

3. Was there anything that could have been done differently?

If I were a teacher, I would change the color of the classroom and
tables in light colors. In order to students were excited come to school
with a positive thinking.
